Mr. Cheng is the secondary antagonist of the Netflix animated series Jentry Chau vs. The Underworld. He is a mogui host who seeks Jentry's powers in order to bring his deceased daughter back from the Diyu.
He was voiced by Greg Chun.
Appearance[]
Mr. Cheng's body appears to be black ooze beneath his robe, with his face covered by a skull mask on the underside of his long brown hair. Upon being separated from the mogui, his human form is revealed as an aged Chinese man with a gray beard.
History[]
Mr. Cheng was once a human man who lost his young daughter. Desperate to revive her by any means, he resorted to finding a mogui, who symbiotically inhabited his body in exchange for the power and longevity to pursue his mission.
At some point, Daoist black market dealers Peng and Moonie Chau made a deal with Cheng; in exchange for the yellow emperor's robe, he would secure them a financial future to take care of their own daughter, Jentry. As they tried to steal the robe from Peng's aunt Flora, she caught them in the act and drained the robe of its abilities, attempting to deceive Cheng with the now-useless cloth. In response, he kills Peng and steals Moonie's memories, causing an amnesiac Moonie to flee the scene in confusion; she would end up starting a new life without seeing her child grow. As Cheng is about to kill Jentry for her magic, Flora bargains to spare her until the day she turns 16 years old, a term he finds acceptable.
16 years later, as Jentry is about to celebrate her birthday in Seoul, South Korea, Cheng sends a jiangshi to carry out his task, but he is defeated when she awakens the fire powers granted by the robe. Following this, Jentry is brought by Flora back to her home town of Riverfork, Texas to hone her abilities and stop Cheng for good.
