~ Mr. Ellingboe |
Mr. Aksel Ellingboe is one of the two main antagonists (alongside Mrs. Krum) of Netflix Animation's 1st feature film Klaus.
He is the head of the Ellingboe family in Smeerensburg, just like his Krum family counterpart, he is obsessed with maintaining the feud between his and the rival family. After the two sides began to get along, he teamed up with Mrs. Krum to help take down Klaus's operation.
He was voiced by Will Sasso in his first villainous role.
Appearance[]
Mr. Ellingboe appears to be heavyset with red hair. He has a very tall top hat. Most of his clothing is fancy and traditional, but his button-up isn't able to make it all the way down his stomach. He appears to be older, maybe around seventy or sixty, and so his skin is a bit wrinkled.
Personality[]
Like the opposing clan leader, Mr. Ellingboe holds a strong grudge against the Krum family. He is at top of his family's hierarchy, and he is able to command them as such. He is dedicated to feuding, so much so that he was willing to form an alliance with his most hated rival just so he could continue it.
Mr. Ellingboe is the dumber of the two clans members. Providing a slight comic relief, he doesn't ever seem to have his wits about him. Several times did he find himself clueless to the easily laid-out plan, causing Mrs. Krum to become furious when he would ask who she was talking about. When it came to stopping a sleigh to avoid falling off a cliff, he used someone's head rather stop it.
Mr. Ellingboe is very loving and supportive of his daughter. He is seen several times telling her how good she's doing, and reminding her of how proud he is.
Biography[]
Mr. Ellingboe is first seen after Jesper rang the bell. He came out of his house and started feuding with Mrs. Krum. He also stood there while the new mailman, Jesper, was introduced. He is later seen when the first child was delivered their toy, and two of the opposing side's children started getting along. The child of the Ellingboe family was brought to Mr. Ellingboe, where he told her the history of the feud. He filled her in on why they needed to continue to fight.
He doesn't have any major scenes for a while, but he is seen several times acting shocked when he sees the feud coming apart. He is later seen trying to sabotage Klaus with a bolder, which got in the way of the Krum's sabotage, causing the two leaders to fight again. His next major appearance was when Mrs. Krum called the two clans to a meeting. She proposed an alliance between the two families to help stop the toy making. At first, Ellingboe was shocked, but he later turned around and shook her hand. They soon went and found Jesper's motive for delivering all of the letters, and so they proposed a plan to make a tone of fake letters so that Jesper would finally leave.
After Jesper's dad arrived to congratulate him, Mr. Ellingboe and Mrs. Krum also appear to congratulate him. After Jesper was seen leaving with his dad, Mrs. Krum and Mr. Ellingboe began to plan phase two. They are then seen at the toy factory, getting ready to begin their attack. That's when Jesper arrived and got on the sleigh, beginning a chase. Mr. Ellingboe is seen throughout the chase on a sleigh, commanding his clan. He later gets off the join the mob when all the presents fall off a cliff, having come to a stop when he saw the cliff and used one of his men's heads to stop it. After it's revealed that his daughter fell in love with Mrs. Krum's son, he tries to tell his daughter to put the son down, but they run off, causing the clan leaders and the remaining clan members to chase after them.
He is last seen at the wedding reception of their own children, standing next to Mrs. Krum, unhappy for now being parents-in-law and ending their tradition of hating each other once for all. It's unknown if Ellingboe ever mellowed out and came to totally accept his son-in-law as the years went by or not.

Mr. Ellingboe : Uh... Mrs. Krum : I'll tell you where they are - they're at block parties! Hayrides! And COOK-OUTS! Concerned Ellingboe Man : Don't forget about the brunches! Ellingboe Councilwoman : [sobbing] It was a book club that took my poor Sven! Mrs. Krum : You see? The postman and that old toy maker are brainwashing everyone! Mr. Ellingboe : What are you saying? Mrs. Krum : I'm saying it's time to join forces against a common enemy! I'm saying... we need a TRUCE. [all gasp] Mr. Ellingboe : A truce? Have you gone mad? Mrs. Krum : Either we band together to take care of this, or it's gonna be all book clubs and cookouts from here on... Concerned Ellingboe Man : And brunches! Don't forget about the brunches! Mrs. Krum : Yes, that. That too. Mr. Ellingboe : So... we must join together in peace, to stop this peace? Mrs. Krum : Do you know what this is, little boy? Mr. Ellingboe : This is tradition! Mrs. Krum : Centuries of glorious hatred, passed down through generations! There was the hundred-day brawl of '45... Mr. Ellingboe : ...which we totally won! Mrs. Krum : The maritime game of chicken. Mr. Ellingboe : The Great Mooning of '86. Mrs. Krum : So, if there's something we know... Mr. Ellingboe : ...going back as far as we can remember... Mrs. Krum : ...it's that a Krum despises an Ellingboe... Mr. Ellingboe : ...and an Ellingboe can't stand a Krum! Mrs. Krum : [ambushing Klaus the night of delivery] Well now, isn't this convenient? Klaus : What are you doing here? Mrs. Krum : Why, we were just thinking... don't our children also deserve a present? Mr. Ellingboe : [gesturing at the sack of toys] And lookee here - you've already got her favorite thing in the world! A nice, big piñata! Alva : Hey, you put one hand on those toys, and I swear...! Klaus : [restraining her] Stand back! All right, do what you will with the toys. But no one gets hurt! Mrs. Krum : Suits us just fine. How long until children go back to the old ways once there are no toys to bribe them with? How long until they turn against each other? And how long until the grownups follow? |
