~ Mr. Golfy as he chases the player. |
Mr. Golfy is the main antagonist of the 2020 indie-horror game Gone Golfing. He is a killer golf ball mascot who hunts the player down with a golf putter to keep him as his "playmate" after the latter discovered a doorway to his dimension at a mini golf course called Cozy Cove.
Biography[]
Past[]
Due to the differences between the the three endings of the game, Mr. Golfy's origins is rather ambiguous. In the second good ending, the player discovers a man operating the traps and environment with his computer and the game's ending tells the player that everything is a set up and just a harmless game and that Mr. Golfy is a man in a costume. However, in the bad ending, Mr. Golfy captures the player and tortures him for eternity as a disturbing way of expressing his friendship towards him. Due to the appearance and behavior of Mr. Golfy himself, it's pretty clear that he is not human. It is implied that he has captured and tortured multiple people before the events of the game.
Gone Golfing[]
After a long and tiring day of work, the player decides to visit a newly-opened mini golf course called Cozy Cove, after scoring in thirteen holes, a door mysteriously opens. When the player enters, he sees a mini portal and proceeds to enter it, he is then teleported to an abandoned warehouse where after some time of exploring, encounters Mr. Golfy who relentlessly pursues him throughout in a twisted game of cat and mouse. The player in return, must evade him at all costs and find a way of this dimension by solving puzzles related to golfing. Scoring holes however, will cause Mr. Golfy to spawn near the player.
Endings[]
Good Ending 1[]
After the player scores in thirteen holes in Mr. Golfy's dimension, he is able teleport out of his dimension and into Cozy Cove where he escapes where Mr. Golfy is nowhere to be seen.
Good Ending 2[]
After the player scores in thirteen holes as well as solving the puzzles in Mr. Golfy's dimension and chooses to stay behind, he will come across an office where he discovers that the man there operates all of the traps, effects and declares the experience as nothing more than a harmless game and that Mr. Golfy is nothing more than a man in a costume despite everything he has been put through.
Bad Ending[]
If the player falls for Mr. Golfy's trap, the player would have no choice but to succumb to his fate and become Mr. Golfy's best friend as he would be tortured for all eternity.
True Ending[]
If the player decides to hunt down Mr. Golfy after solving all puzzles and scoring all holes, he will pursue the player even more relentlessly than before until the player defeats him, finds the true exit and escapes.
Personality[]
It's pretty clear that Mr. Golfy is a deranged and possessive monster. Judging by his dialogue, he is extremely possessive almost like a little child chasing after a pet. However, he has no intention to murder the player and insteads wants to be his friend by torturing him for all eternity which is evidence that Mr. Golfy has no sense of reality nor right or wrong and simply wants a friend for his won sadistic pleasure. It is unknown whether Mr. Golfy is aware of the pain he'll cause the player when torturing or if he is just straight out delusional. However, Mr. Golfy is proven to be relentless as he pursues the player throughout the entire game non-stop which is why the player has to brain-storm or take tight and small routes and pathways so that Mr. Golfy could not pursue however, he will eventually find the player at open areas.

Trivia[]
- Mr. Golfy's original backstory was to have him seeking vengeance against humans for hitting him with golf sticks in the real world. However, it was scrapped by the developers as they felt that it is silly.
- It is theorized that Mr. Golfy is the spirit of a deceased Cozy Cove mascot who became lonely while roaming the dimension of the dead.
- In one of the notes in the game, there is a repeating sentence saying "I AM MR. GOLFY" but halfway the pattern breaks by an incomplete sentence "I AM GRE..." before continuing to repeat the previous sentence.
