I have brought the nine of you here for a reason. Your survival depends on you figuring out what that reason is. I will leave you alone for your discussions but I will return every ten minutes and kill one of you until you've figured it out or until you are all dead. You have ten minutes.
~ Shooter's introduction speech.
Why are you here?
~ Mr. Greeley whenever ten minutes have gone by and he walks into the room.

Mr. Greeley, credited as Shooter, is the main antagonist of the 2010 thriller film Nine Dead. He was a serial kidnapper and murderer, who turned out to be the father of a wrongfully convicted teenager named Wade Greeley. After his son died of AIDS, Mr Greeley sought revenge against those who all played a part in his son's death.

He was portrayed by John Terry, who also portrayed Christian Shephard in Lost.

Biography[]

Mr. Greeley was the father of a young twenty-year-old named Wade Greeley. In the year of 2002, Wade was framed for an armed robbery of a convenience store. Wade was convicted of the crime and sentenced to five years in prison. While serving his sentence, he was raped by another inmate and contracted AIDS. After he got out, he only had two years to live. Mr. Greeley tried to sign Wade up for an experimental treatment which would've prolonged his life, but Wade was rejected for being an ex-con. Two years later Wade died with Mr. Greeley by his bedside. After his son's death, Mr. Greeley investigated and tracked down nine people that all contributed in a way.

He kidnapped them and held them in a warehouse, handcuffed to poles, and told them that their job was to figure out why he kidnapped them and what they all have in common. Each ten minutes, he came in the room, shot one of the nine strangers, and dragged their body out.

Victims[]

  • Christian Collingsworth | Shot in the chest.
  • Coogan | Shot in the chest.
  • Leon | Shot in the head.
  • Father Michael Francis | Shot in the chest.
  • Nhung Chan | Shot in the head.
  • Sully Fenton | Shot in the chest.

Reasons for being There[]

  • Sully Fenton: Gave Christian drugs to sell, which he lost after being busted by cops. Therefore, Christian owed money to Sully, which motivated him to commit the robbery.
  • Leon: Sold Christian the gun he used to commit the robbery.
  • Christian Collingsworth: Robbed a convenience store to get the $5000 to pay Sully back, which ultimately ended up with Wade being blamed for the crime.
  • Nhung Chan: Falsely identified Wade in the police line-up.
  • Kelley Murphy: Swapped hair samples from the crime scene with Wade's to get him convicted.
  • Dean Jackson: Unknowingly helped Kelley make the exchange.
  • Father Michael Francis: Heard Christian confess to the robbery, but didn't tell anyone because it was in a confessional booth.
  • Coogan: Raped Wade Greeley in prison, infecting him with AIDS.
  • Eddie Vigoda: Turned down Wade for a treatment for AIDS, because he was an ex-convict.

Trivia[]

  • It is highly improbable that Mr. Greeley would've known about most of the strangers' contributions to his son's death. As most of them were private exchanges
    • Though it is possible that he didn't know himself, what they were guilty of, and made assumptions based off the information he had learned.
    • It's possible he does know by passing himself as an ordinary citizen and might have eavesdropped on them.
  • Though never confirmed, Mr. Greeley could've been a cop; given his access to tasers and investigative skills. This would also explain how he was able to track everyone down and why he had access to Coogan's prison file.
  • Even though Mr. Greenly claimed he was going to kill them at random, it could be he killed them one by one from the most responsible for his son, Wade's death:
    • Christian was first since he robbed the store in the first place.
    • Coogan was second since he raped and infected Wade with AIDs.
    • Leon was third since he attempted to escape, but would have been before or after Sully since he supplied Christian with the gun.
    • Francis was fourth, but he meant to kill Eddie fourth since he didn't assign for the meds that could have saved Wade. Father Francis was likely before or after Nhung Chang.
    • Chang was fifth since she faulsy identified Wade.
    • Eddie would have been sixth.
    • Kelly would have been seventh.
    • Jackson likely would have been the last since he unknowingly helped Kelly switch Wade's hair sample with Jackson's since he allowed her into the evidence room.
    • Although, this could be unfounded since Kelly was responsible for Wade going to jail in the first place since she planted evidence against him leading to the events occuring afterward.
  • Mr. Greeley likely hated Kelly the most since she was responsible for his son being sent to prison in the first place. This could also be the reason that he freed her first (despite Jackson and Eddie being the closest ones to him) since he knew what she would've done killed or attempted to kill them all, which would have further ruined her life.
  • Mr. Greely likely hated Jackson the least since he unknowingly helped Kelly, which was further proven as he revealed that Billy (Kelly's son) was his son.
