Mr. Grossman is the secondary antagonist of The Origin of Laughing Jack. He is the abusive and alcoholic husband of Mrs. Grossman and the father of Isaac Grossman.
Biography[]
As the patriarch of the family, Mr. Grossman works long hours at the London harbor in order to get the money to assist them. However, rather than using that money to provide anything useful for his family, he instead wastes it on alcohol, something he would often drink at a lot of bars. It is implied that he performs some form of misbehavior at those bars as he would get kicked out of them often. Every time he comes home, he would be drunk and he would shout at his wife before proceeding to abuse her in violent ways and raping her as well on a regular basis. In turn, she would sometimes take her grief and anger out on Isaac. Mr. Grossman is heavily neglectful of Isaac as his father, never spending time with him and not coming to his aid when his wife abuses him.
Unbeknownst to the both of them, Isaac would one day spot a wooden box on his bed and would open it, causing some form of creature to pop out with the name of Laughing Jack. Because of this encounter, Isaac was able to make a friend and had as much fun as he could with him without anyone noticing. However, during one unfortunate day, while playing pirate, the Laughing Jack ends up accidentally killing a cat, causing Isaac to take the blame for it and be sent to boarding school by his mother. It is unknown what Mr. Grossman's reaction to this was. As a result, Isaac was forced to abandon Jack, having him go back into the box he came out of and would not be touched for years due to being left in the attic.
As the years went on, Mr. Grossman would continue to abuse and rape his wife until at one point, she ends up succumbing to the beatings he gave her and died. This would result in Mr. Grossman being executed by getting hanged at the gallows, allowing Isaac to take ownership of his home since he was an adult by then.
As a result of his neglectful behavior combined with his wife's abusive nature, Mr. Grossman would serve as one of the reasons as to why Isaac becomes the sadistic serial killer and torturer he is today, so while he does not appear in the story much, this makes him a pretty major character.
