~ Mr. Gruber to Richard, starting their feud. |
Mr. Gruber is a minor antagonist in The Amazing World of Gumball. He is the delivery guy of Elmore and Richard Watterson's arch-nemesis.
He was guest-starred voiced by Rob Rackstraw, who also voiced William in the same series, Shears in Broken Sword 5: The Serpent's Curse, Campion in the TV series of Watership Down, Robin Hood's wax figure in Gravity Falls, Savolla in The Witcher 2007, Pew the Rat in The Legends of Treasure Island, Todd in The Foxbusters, Marion Pluss in Boyster, and Diesel in Thomas and Friends: Learning with Thomas..
Appearance[]
Mr. Gruber is a bald eagle dressed in a standard mailman uniform with a gold belt to go along with it.
Personality[]
As a delivery guy, he is strict and uptight, taking his job seriously and respects rules and regulations. He doesn't tolerate people who don't respect rules and regulations, such as when Richard believed he could just get his package after it had just been entered into the system as "undelivered" and to be returned to the depot even thought he hadn't left yet and is in front of Richard and his house.
He is capable of reason, as when he gave Richard the choice of paying for a redelivery of his package or arrive at the depot to pick it up before bidding him "good day" and driving off.
However, he loses his patience when Richard was too lazy to choose one of the two options he gave him and lies to the post office and say Mr. Gruber neglected to ring the doorbell, thus ruining his "spotless reputation," and then he pulls off petty schemes and plans to torment Richard and make him miss his remaining two deliveries, lying about being an ice cream man and pretending to be his wife and in the hospital, succeeding thanks to Richard's stupidity. Afterwards, he gives him multiple chances to pick up the package at the collection points of other locations in unrealistic amounts of time, only to not give him his package at all even when he had it in his hands, taking it away and saying it was still the property of the U.S mail and, as per the rules, he takes it back to the depot. Then, he gloats all day and all morning the next day, only to be defeated when Richard ordered the same thing all over again.
He underestimated Richard's laziness, utterly and genuinely being shocked to see him track him down at the interstate with the frying sound of peanut oil and then arrive on a plane at the interstate and, in the end, order the same puzzle piece all over again instead of going to the depot to collect his first package.
Often times, he does mime gestures, but uses the incorrect ones all the time. He says he loves mime, but hecan't do it.
He seems to care about his family, like his brother, as seen when he specified to Richard that he was laughing at his plan to mess with him and he wasn't laughing at his brother being in the hospital due to appendicitis.
Biography[]
After Richard doesn't get out of the bathtub in time to answer the door for his package, Richard talks with Gruber, but he refuses to hand over his package. His options are either to pick it up at the depot (which Richard refuses to do because of its lines) or pay for a redelivery, which he also doesn't want to do. So with advice from Gumball and Darwin, Richard lies that Mr. Gruber didn't ring the doorbell. Afterwards, Mr. Gruber returns the next day, very furious about Richard lying about his reputation and starts up the feud between them. After Richard agrees to challenge, Mr. Gruber lures Richard out of the house and into the desert using his brother Hans' ice cream truck.
Afterwards, Mr. Gruber gives Richard a phone call, disguising his voice and tricks him into thinking Nicole is at the hospital and her heart has fallen out. After this ruse, Mr. Gruber contacts Richard through a walkie-talkie hidden in bouquet of flowers and gives Richard one last chance to get his package. He gives Richard a riddle that leads them to the Elmore Mall. But since their car got towed because the "no parking, ambulances only" policy, they don't make it on time. Afterwards, Mr. Gruber calls Richard again, and gives him another riddle which is the museum, which is where the package will be for the next 5 minutes.
Mr. Gruber sends Gumball, Darwin and Richard on a wild goose chase all throughout Elmore, attempting to get Richard's package before Richard gets one last phone call from Mr. Gruber, but at the same time, Richard hears a frying sound which he notices as peanut oil from the food truck Diagnosis Burger. In a last ditch attempt to get the package, Richard drops out of a plane and Mr. Gruber tries to flee, but Richard crashes into his truck just in time to get his package. But Richard's victory is very short-lived, as Gruber furiously snatches the package away since it's still the property of the U.S. Mail, and drives off cruelly proclaiming himself the winner as he spends the rest of the day and the next day laughing nonstop.
But when Gruber opens the door to the Wattersons' house, Richard actually opens it on time, which startles Mr. Gruber since Richard's package is still at the depot, but Richard decided to buy the same thing online rather than collecting his package since it was Gumball's idea. Richard proclaims that he's finally won and closes the door, while Mr. Gruber screams no at the top of his lungs in defeat. Given the amount of time he wasted on Richard's package as well as it all leading to a company truck getting damaged, he will most likely be fired.
