Mr. Hume is the main antagonist of the 1971 giallo slasher film Slaughter Hotel, also known as Cold-Blooded Beast. He is the husband of a mentally ill woman named Cheryl and a serial killer who wanted to kill his wife and make it look like a maniac was responsible.

He was portrayed by Piero Nistri and voiced in English by Alessandro Iovino.

Biography[]

Mr. Hume was married to a woman named Cheryl, but after Cheryl had a breakdown, she had to be committed to a rehabilitation center somewhere in the Italian countryside. For reasons unclear, Hume decided to kill Cheryl, but in order to cover his tracks, he decided to kill others as well and make it look like the center had been plagued by a maniac.

At the beginning of the film, Hume dressed in black, breaks into the center and grabs an medieval axe. He then goes to the room of a patient, ready to kill her, but he is interrupted by an alarm, so he retreats. In the afternoon, Hume visits his wife and attempts to talk the center into releasing her, but to no avail. That night, he comes back and kills a nurse with a scythe and the most recent patient with a dagger.

The most recent patient being Ruth, Hume wearing no hood approaches her with a dagger. She tries to fight back, but Hume chokes and stabs her to death. Finding a chauffeur drinking all the remaining alcohol in the main room, Hume pushes the chauffer into an Iron Maiden. Afterwards, he grabs a sword and goes to Cheryl's room, but doesn't find her there, as she's off with Dr. Clay. In a fit of rage, he slams the sword on her bed over and over again, before eventually sneaking off again.

Anne later sees Hume standing over her in her sleep, asking him to lie down next to her. However, Hume hacks her to death with a battle axe. Nurse Helen and a patient named Mara engage in a sensual evening, but are interrupted when Hume shoots a crossbow and kills Mara. Helen freaks out garnering the attention of the rest of the staff. Upon finding the bodies, the police are called and the bodies are removed.

After finding all the bodies, the police decide to use Cheryl as bait for the killer. While Cheryl is walking through a room, Hume attempts to strangle her with a noose, but she pulls off his mask and the police come out from hiding to confront him. However, he retreats, grabbing a flail and knocking out two policemen. They chase him into a room with other patients, whom he beats to death with the flail. While he's killing the patients, the cops come in and shoot him multiple times, finally ending his reign of terror.

Trivia[]

  • Why Hume decided to kill his wife, whether it was something he wanted to do from the start, but the center got in the way, or he resented the center for taking her away, is unclear.
  • After strangling Ruth, Hume cut her panties off with the dagger, possibly implying he raped her corpse or violated it with the dagger. Neither is confirmed, however, and cutting off her panties could've just been a way to strengthen the story of a sex maniac on the prowl.
