Mr. Ruben Miguel Magallanes is one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside with Antonio Rodriguez) in Black Rider.
He is the father of Edgardo Magallanes who was responsible in separating their bonds with Alma Guerrero for them to organize a drug dealing syndicate known as the Golden Scorpion by setting up Edgardo’s fake death in Cebu by motorcycle accident.
Background[]
Not much is known about him, except that his clan believes that they are the descendants of Ferdinand Magellan, a Portuguese explorer who have conquered Philippine Islands particularly in Mactan. It was also stated that Edgardo and his predecessors have been organizing criminal groups throughout the country.
Prior to the organization of Golden Scorpion, he organized a criminal organization alongside with his son Edgardo Magallanes mainly involved in drug dealing and human trafficking syndicate.
One day, he learns that his son attempted to abandon their criminal life and lie lowed in Cebu having a short time relationship with Alma Guerrero. As he learns Edgardo having relationship with Alma, he convinced him to end their relationship by setting up his death.
Later on, he continues mentoring his son Edgardo and helped him found a criminal organization known as Golden Scorpion and assigned his loyal henchman Hugo to be his son’s partner in the organization.
It is unknown what happened to him afterwards as he was never seen again throughout the series. However, it is implied that he retired and eventually died due to old age, and Edgardo continued their family’s criminal activities.

- In the scene, that he witness with Edgardo, Alma grieving in the police station over the fake death of Edgardo, he mentions that he didn’t want to accept Alma as Edgardo’s soon to be spouse stating that she may discover their illegal activities and due their social status differences. However, few years later his son was married to Hilda Magallanes, indicating that it is possible that Hilda or even her family has strong connections to the Magallanes family, as it is presumed that he accepted more Hilda to be Edgardo’s wife instead of Alma.
