Well, when the American public discovered I've been filling my peanuts up with TOXIC PESTICIDES, I decided to go on the Dick Cavett show and do a little peanut jig. Yes, that's what you need, is a-a-a peanut jig of your own, yes, err-a peanut jig of your own, yes.
~ Mr. Peanut's suggestion to Mr. Boss.

Jason Peanutcritter is a minor character in the Smiling Friends episode "Frowning Friends." He is a parody of the real-life Mr. Peanut, the mascot for the American snack food company Planters.

He is enlisted by Mr. Boss to help him find a way to compete against the Frowning Friends and win back his share of the market. He explains that after the public found out he filled his peanuts with toxic pesticides, he appeared on the Dick Cavett show to perform a "peanut jig" as a means of distraction.

Appearance[]

He is an anthropomorphic peanut-like humanoid with a small body and a round torso. He has sickly, pale yellow skin, aging spots on his head and groin, bulging veins, large eyes, a wrinkled face, an extremely long nose, and thin limbs. He wears a tall, dark purple top hat with a white stripe, a matching dark purple suit jacket, a white undershirt, and a large pink bowtie. Notably, he does not wear pants. He also sports half of a pair of eyeglasses.

Personality[]

Mr. Peanut's behavior comes across as highly erratic, psychotic, corrupt, and amoral. He shows no remorse for the possible fatalities his actions might have caused, and dismisses the harmful impacts that filling his peanuts with pesticides would have on the general public. Instead, he decides to perform a "peanut jig" on live TV in response, attempting to distract from the scandal and even suggesting that Mr. Boss do the same, all for the benefit of his own agenda. The peanut jig itself is also an eccentric and bizarre dance move, where he extended his arms forward rapidly in an absurd fashion, further showcasing his bizarre mannerisms and behavior.

Biography[]

Sometime likely in the mid to late 20th century, Mr. Peanut's company was embroiled in a scandal when it was revealed that their peanut products were contaminated with harmful pesticide chemicals. As a means of distracting the public and improving his reputation, Mr. Peanut appeared on the Dick Cavett show to perform a "peanut jig." Although the rest of the details are unclear, it appears that his plan may have worked, as he still celebrates and argues on behalf of this maneuver in the present.

In his debut and sole appearance in the show, Mr. Peanut is summoned into Mr. Boss's office to brainstorm strategies for recovering the company's profits, which have plummeted by $2.4 billion due to the emergence of the rival firm, Frowning Friends, Inc. He reminisces about his scandal and suggests a similar approach to Mr. Boss in helping his company recover, however, Mr. Boss finds the idea ludicrous and dismisses Mr. Peanut from his office, along with Ronald Reagan and Warren Buffett.

However, all three simply disappear soon after, suggesting that the Mr. Peanut in Mr. Boss's office was simply a figment of his imagination.

Trivia[]

  • In an interview with the podcast The Create Unknown, series co-creator Zach Hadel implied that Charlie's grandma was a victim of Mr. Peanut's scandal. Charlie also mentions himself that she had died after eating a peanut.
