~ Salacia's last words before he gets eaten by the Whale Prophet. |
Mr. Salacia is the overarching antagonist of Metalocalypse and Metalocalypse: The Doomstar Requiem as well the main antagonist in Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar. He is the leader of The Tribunal who plans bring about the Metalocalypse, a cataclysmic event that would allow him to achive his ultimate form.
He was voiced by Mark Hamil who is best known for voicing The Joker in various Batman media, Fire Lord Ozai in Avatar: The Last Airbender, Abraham Kane in Motorcity, and many others.
Personality[]
Salacia is a ruthless and cunning individual who is content to watch Dethklok from the shadows waiting for the right moment to strike. He's shown to be very controlling and authoritarian towards the rest of the Tribunal, always having the last word in whatever decisions they make and having no tolerance for any disobedience. He can be very merciless when it comes to killing those who either defy or pose any inconvenience to him, as shown by the extreme and needlessly brutal manner in which he killed Ravenwood and Roy when they tried to interfere with his plans. That being said, he is pragmatic enough to recognize his pawns worth to him alive than dead, sparing General Crozier from execution in order to use his position in the military to fund Project Falconbreak, opting to possess and mind control him instead in spite of his insubordination with Ravenwoond, and refraining from killing Dethklok until they've fulfilled their role in his scheme.
The finale reveals Salacia to be a truly immoral and selfish entity, as he's concerned solely with reclaiming his full power by harnessing the Doomstar's energy, while showing complete apathy towards the destruction of all life on earth as a result of the star radiation. He's also shown to be very sadistic, taking joy in taunting Murderface over his unwitting role in enabling the apocalypse as a result of Salacia's possession, as well as telling Nathan of his plans to make him immortal so he may torture him for eternity once he has harnessed the Dethlights from the band. In his final moments, he's also shown to be very arrogant, calling himself a god and boasting of his invincibility to Dethklok when they and their fans manage to drive him over the sea, this declaration being followed by his genuine surprise and fear when the Whale Prophet rises from the ocean to kill him.
Background[]
Not much is known about Salacia, General Crozier's research on him leading to several dead ends describing his background as "murky". Throughout the series he sits in on Tribunal meetings on a throne in the center, is almost always the last to speak, and has the final word on what course of action the group takes for any situation they are in. Oddly enough, he usually recommends inaction, ordering the Tribunal to allow what is occurring to take place undisturbed. Something which did not please General Crozier, culminating in him and Cardinal Ravenwood going behind his back to try to kill Dethklok in the Season One finale to which Salacia retaliated by telekinetically causing five soldiers' heads to instantly burst; he then turns on Ravenwood, bursting his eyes and causing his intestines to extrude from his mouth. In contrast, he only puts Crozier to sleep, claiming he needs Crozier alive.
Ravenwood is swiftly replaced by Vater Orlaag in Season Two, who is noticeably much more loyal to him than the other Tribunal members even referring to him as "Master". In "Black Fire Upon Us", Salacia once again confronts Crozier and implants visions into his head wearing the same bone armor and having the five emblems also shown as five separate planets, possibly showing Dethklok's universal importance. He appears to taken control of Crozier's mind, using the General to control the army & Salacia is seen in some far off frozen region observing the construction of some sort of device (the blueprints of which are being looked at by a possessed General Crozier). This is later elaborated to be a classified project known as Falconback, which is only supposed to be known to the four key members of the Tribunal (Salacia, Orlaag, Crozier, and Stampingston) but suspect that Dethklok manager Charles Offdensen might somehow have knowledge of the project and that he might be a figure known as "The Dead Man".
Things come ahead in Season 4 with the breakup of Dethklok on the horizon he feels no other choice ,but to reveal himself as he takes on a horrifying inhuman form. He is shown once again to murder people with his mind alone and possesses the power of flight. Although he does no harm to Dethklok in the particular episode, it gives the assumption that he would've if he had the chance, throwing away the idea that he's not against the Metalocalypse. He also kills Roy Cornickelson swiftly and brutally. Charles later explains to Dethklok that he's a figure known as the Half Man, and that during the events of Season Two he witnessed Salacia brainwashing General Crozier during which he looked into Salacia's eyes and was poisoned by Salacia's dark power, turning Charles into into the "Dead Man" a person whose presence is undetectable to the Half-Man's powers making him the perfect person to spy on the brainwashed General Crozier after being saved by the Church of the Black Klok who goes on to explain that Dethklok is destined to defeat the Half Man and shepherd humanity into salvation to survive the Metalocalypse.
The Tribunal appears in The Doomstar Requiem, however their appearance is more of a cameo as the actual main antagonists of the special are a different faction known as The Revengencers. However Dethklok (and more specifically Murderface) encounter a man that bares a suspicious resemblance to Salacia, in particular his coral ring showing up as an eyebrow piercing, that proceeds to hypnotize Murderface and possibly poison him judging by the last shot.
In The Army of Doomstar, Salacia enters his endgame. First seen reinforcing his control of Crozier when the latter is caught by Vater trying to warn his family about Salacia's plans, he later tasks Vater with finding and destroying the titular army. He then focuses his attention on Murderface, slowly gaining control of him to use him as his newest puppet. Upon gaining complete control of him, he has Murderface undermine Nathan's confidence by tricking him into using Murderfaces laptop to look up and read the harsh criticisms being spoken against him following his breakup with Abigail and his fall from grace due to his trauma from Requiem. He also uses Murderface to find the location of the Klokateer forces believed to be the Army of the Doomstar, forcefully ripping the information from Murderfaces mind when he succeeds.
As a result of his manipulations of Nathan through Murderface, Nathan ends up writing a distorted version of the Song of Salvation needed to save the world from the approaching Doomstar. When Dethklok plays this version of the song in a broadcast, the Doomstar is drawn closer to the Earth and its radiation rains down on the world, bringing devastation and death across the globe and leaving large swathes of the planet an apocalyptic wasteland, with Salacia watching the carnage from his base with satisfaction. He sends his forces to attack Dethkloks hideout and capture the band, wiping out the army of Klokateers and killing Dick Nubbler in the process. Crozier is able to free himself from Salacia's control due to him focusing on maintaining his control of Murderface, leading to the general throwing himself from the helicopter into a body of water in an attempted suicide. It turns out at that moment that Salacia's powers are weakened by water, and Crozier is exorcised and freed from Salacia's power for good. He finds the band and reveals the weakness in Salacia's powers, allowing them to free Murderface by holding him under a small lake and exorcising Salacia. Salacia tells Nathan to come find him before his spirit vanishes. Crozier then reveals that the Falconbreak machine is a superconductor that Salacia is using to draw the Doomstar to Earth so that he may open a portal with the star to summon forth 4 souls from Salacia's world to reclaim his full power and true form in a ritual he calls "the Great Reuniting", while also having the Doomstar terraform the Earth to his liking.
He sends Vater to shoot down Dethkloks floating stage to stop them from singing the Song of Salvation to the world, capturing the band. He attempts to have Nathan join him under the promise of giving his friends a merciful death. When Nathan refuses, Salacia vows to crucify Nathan before subjecting him to an eternity of torture. Having the band strapped to a machine, he has the powers bestowed on them by the Doomstar (the Dethlites) drained to open a portal in the Doomstar to summon the 4 souls, absorbing them to regain his full power, which also kills Senator Stampingston and his worshippers. Even though Nathan is able to free himself and destroy the machine at the cost of getting knocked unconscious, Salacia is still able to transform back into his true eldritch form. Emerging into his completed form following Vater's death and his forces being overwhelmed by Dethkloks fans, Salacias massacres US military forces of the Tribunal after Crozier had them turn against him, he attempts to kill the band once and for all. At that moment, Nathan wakes back up and he and the band harness the Dethlites to block his energy blast. Imbuing their fans with the power of the Dethlites, turning them into the true Army of the Doomstar, Dethklok release a blast of energy that drives Salacia over the surface of the ocean. After smugly declaring that only a god could hope to kill him, Salacia is taken by surprise when the Whale Prophet who eats him, releasing the 4 souls as well ending his Half-Mans reign of terror for good.

Trivia[]
- His name comes from a Roman goddess that is the consort of Neptune and mother of Triton who is depicted as half-man, half-fish. It also seems to be word play on the word "salacious" which alludes to his deceitful nature.
- Following the series' untimely cancellation (but before it was greenlit for a belated finale movie in 2021), Brendon Small tried to salvage his plans for the finale in the form of a concept album titled Galaktikon II: Become the Storm. There are numerous references to Salacia, most notably in the track "Nightmare" that tells of a man dying before being resurrected in a malevolent form, including the line "I am the half the man I used to be" and final verse alluding to his tendency to wait and FalcolnBack.
- Considering Senator Stampingston has the same voice as him, Salacia may be the Half Man in that he is one being split into two; like Jasdero & Devit.
- This is later shown to be just an incorrect theory.
- The reason Salacia kept Dethklok safe is that he needed to use them as batteries to open the portal in the Doomstar; their Dethlights wouod attract the four souls within Salacia needed to absorb.
