MR. SPIDER WANTS ANOTHER GUEST FOR DINNER. IT IS POLITE TO KNOCK.
~ The ending of A Guest for Mr. Spider.

Mr. Spider is a minor antagonist of the Rusty Quill horror podcast The Magnus Archives, serving as the titular main antagonist of Mag 81: A Guest for Mr. Spider. He was the protagonist of a supernatural children's book created by the Web called A Guest for Mr. Spider. In the book, Mr. Spider meets with several terrified "guests", before presumably eating them all. The book would tempt the reader to knock of Mr. Spider's door and be his next guest, which if done, would allow Mr. Spider to briefly escape his tome and drag the reader in.

Appearance[]

The Mr. Spider depicted in the book seemed a large spider with legs splayed every which way. He was a small top hat on his head. After eating all of his visitors, he becomes much larger and is seen weaving a web on the final page.

When entering the real world, only two of Mr. Spider's legs could be seen. They were described as impossibly long and covered in coarse black hair.

Personality[]

From what little is shown, Mr. Spider is a predatory creature, consumed by a seemingly endless hunger, that makes him eat every creature he meets. He seems patient and methodical but does not value anything that he cannot eat and sees every living thing as food. He is merciless, and unmoved by any gift he receives.

Biography[]

The children book A Guest for Mr. Spider open with Mr. Spider standing in his home staring at the door for several pages, while arms change positions. He is eventually visited by Mr. Bluebottle, who knocks on the door and offers him a cake, which he doesn't like. He presumably eats Bluebottle and continues to stare at the door until it is knocked on again. This time it is Mrs. Fruit, who offers him flowers, which he doesn't like either. He presumably eats her and continues to stare at the door until it is knocked on by Mr. Horse. Mr. Horse has brought him his son, and Mr. Spider eats them both, before turning to the reader and asking them to knock.

The book was created by the Web at some point in time and eventually was found by supernatural book collector Jurgen Leightner, who put it in his library. The book disappeared when the library was attacked and destroyed by the Dread Powers, and eventually found its way to a bookstore in Bournemouth. There, it was found by a little boy named Jonathan Sims, who never got to chance to knock on the door, as the book was stolen from him by a young man helping Jon's grandmother fix the house. The young man was hypnotized by the book and read it while walking around the town. When he reached the end, he knocked on Mr. Spider's door, and Mr. Spider reached his legs out of the book, grabbing the young man and dragging him in.

Powers and Abilities[]

Inside the book, Mr. Spider was more powerful than his prey seemingly because of his size, and he seemed to catch them in web as well. Through the book, he had a sort of hypnosis and could compel a person to knock on his door. Upon being released, his long legs were generally able to grab anything in sight.

Trivia[]

  • Despite only appearing in one episode, Mr. Spider is a large part of the reason Jonathan Sims began to study the paranormal, and Mr. Spider marking him was a large part of the reason he was hired as archivist by Elias Bouchard, so that he could be used in the Mass Ritual.
