“ | A bunch of Titans appeared inside the Walls four years ago… and one came here. It was about three meters tall… so it wasn’t a very big one. But everyone in the village ran when they saw it… leaving my mother, who had trouble walking, behind. There was nothing I could do. I just sat. I couldn’t run or hide… so I was here. Listening… to my mother being eaten over there. It was so long. It kept eating my mother… while she was still alive Eventually… her screams stopped. I think it was because she screamed until she couldn’t scream anymore. | „ |
~ Kaya recalling the traumatic event caused by Mr Springer’s Pure Titan. |
Mr. Springer also known as Conny’s father, was a minor antagonist in the manga and anime Attack on Titan. He was the father of Connie Springer and lived with his family in the village of Ragako. He and all the other inhabitants would be transformed into Pure Titans by the Marleyan Military, through the use of Zeke Yeager's spinal fluid turned into gas weaponry. Mr Springer would then venture to a small village and attack a woman in front of her daughter, only for the girl to be saved by Sasha Braus.
Appearance[]
Human Form[]
When he was still a human, appeared to be a middle-aged man with a goatee and a thin mustache. He had short and neatly combed dark grey hair. He dressed in a formal way, wearing a proper black suit and a red tie.
Pure Titan form[]
Despite towering over all humans, it was still very small for a Pure Titan, being only 3 meters tall at most. It was overall very similar to its original human form, with more realistic proportions, although it was seemingly scrawnier with ribs visibly bulging from its skin. Its hair was now more rough but still short and still had a mustache but lacked its goatee.
Personality[]
He was as a human presumably a caring family man. As Connie was very concerned for his safety along with the rest of his family, after hearing of the Wall Rose invasion.
Story[]
Past[]
Mr. Springer was born on the 30th of July and was a citizen of the village Ragako that used to existed in southern Wall Rose. He was the father of three children, Connie, Sunny, and Martin Springer.
In the year 847, his oldest child Connie enlisted in the 104th Training Corps. Mr. Springer was seen calmly smiling at his son when he departed.
Clash of the Titans arc[]
Three years later, after the lack of progress the Marleyan Warriors have shown in their mission to capture the Founding Titan, as well as their ominous silence, the Marleyan Military decided to intervene and prepare new plans for a future invasion of the Walls of Paradis Island and help fasten up the progress. Wanting to make a a small test-run of these plans, and possibly even discover if the four missing Warriors - Marcel, Reiner, Bertolt, and Annie - are still alive on the island, the Military decides to send out a small contingent of soldiers consisting of Zeke Yeager, Pieck Finger, and a few more comrades carrying a gas weapon that had already been previously used to defeat and conquer enemy nations. The soldiers, Zeke, and Pieck went up to the Eldian village of Ragako and placed several cannisters around the town, out of these objects would spill out large amounts of gas that swept throughout the village. This gas was Zeke’s spinal fluid turned into a gaseous form, after each inhabitant of Ragako inhaled it, including Mr. Springer. Zeke let out a scream which acted as trigger for the transformation, Mr. Springer and everyone else of Ragako were now turned into Pure Titans. This was merely a recoinassance mission, meant as a trial to test the enemy's strength and to stage for a future real invasion of the Walls of larger scale by using Zeke's spinal fluid.
Mr. Springer would mindlessly walk to a recently built town near the village of Dauper. Everyone in the town fled in fear after seeing the Titan, except for a woman and her young daughter, Kaya, as the woman suffered from a condition making it impossible for her to run. The Titan found the two of them inside their house and began brutally attacking the woman, starting to slowly devour the woman by eating her thigh. Kaya can only sit in fear and stares at the wall in front of her, being too scared to look at what is happening. The Titan just calmly keeps eating at the woman, until suddenly, Sasha Braus comes swinging with an axe to the neck of the Titan. As she repeatedly tries to cut its nape, the Titan’s fast regeneration constantly closes the wound, and the Titan doesn’t fight back, simply continuing eating. Sasha then leaves with Kaya and runs outside of the house, and only then does the Titan begin setting its focus on the two girls, leaving the woman and going after them.
Sasha loses her horse, so she and Kaya have no other choice but to run, with the Titan closely following after them. Sasha eventually decides to use a bow and arrow to blind the Titan so they can stall more time. She makes Kaya continue following the path they were walking, while Sasha deals with the Titan. She shoots an arrow but lands on the Titan’s neck, after shooting another one it also misses. But after shooting yet another time it lands in the Titan’s left eye. With only one arrow left and the Titan coming dangerously close, Sasha throws away her bow and slams the arrow in the Titan’s right eye while trying to launch at her. The Titan now blind still grabs the girl, but she’s capable of slipping away from the blood that was on the Titan.
Mr. Springer would eventually be killed by a Survey Corps soldier at some point during the cleanup of Wall Rose.
War for Paradis arc[]
The experience with Connie's father's Titan was retold by Kaya to the kids Mia and Ben (real names Gabi and Falco), who was informed by Ben that the third invasion of the Walls was only meant as a small test for an actual and proper attack of large scale with Zeke's controlled Titans in the future. According to Gabi, this information was supposed to be secret affairs of the Marleyan state, although common knowledge within the military and at that point outdated information not holding any new secrets to learn.
The account of the Ragako massacre was explained in detail by Zeke to the Eldian military as soon as he arrived to Paradis Island from Marley. One fabricated part of the event is added by Zeke, claiming that the villagers who had inhaled the gas weapon containing his spinal fluid had frozen up and went paralyzed, before he had screamed to transform them. This was added in order to avoid any possible suspicion against Yelena, who during the last two years successfully pressed the government to give captive Marleyan soldiers freedom, rights, and jobs that gave them access to their enemies' food and drinks. Zeke was questioned multiple times about it by Levi, to see if the story changed and to see if he would ever show any visible remorse or sadness for the village's victims.
Trivia[]
- He shares his birthday with Gunther Schultz and Reiner's father.
