Mr. Tatters is a major antagonist in the 2015 PC video game Emily Wants To Play. He is one of the dolls that Emily has befriended when she talked to them and has helped her when she died in the basement of her house after she and her parents moved away from their old home. Mr. Tatters is also an expert at attacking his victims by his attack style from a game named 'Red Light'.

Appearance

Mr. Tatters is a grotesque clown doll with white skin, yellowish - green teeth, thick black eye shadow, red cheeks and red lipstick. He has a large red nose and a blue top hat with red lining along both the brim and base. He wears a yellow, blue, red, and white-striped suit and pants and a pair of large red clown boots and white gloves. His eyes are red and bloodshot and his red tongue sticks through his teeth slightly.

While most of it is covered by his hat, Mr. Tatters has red hair.

Personality

Not known is much about his personality. He emits a demonic laugh and attacks his victims.

Biography

Pre-Emily Wants To Play

Before the game, Mr. Tatters was part of a group of four dolls, Kiki being one of them. The dolls were owned by Vult Ludere and were used to perform puppet shows for children. Later on, Mr. Tatters eventually burnt down the local circus with the help of a fire.

Emily Wants To Play

Mr. Tatters was grouped up once more with Kiki and Chester when they were found in the basement of Emily Withers's home. Emily loved the dolls immediately and called them her "friends." One day, Emily died from unknown causes which caused her parents to panic and prepare to move out. Eventually, her parents died from unknown causes, but it is implied that the dolls or Emily had killed them.

Mr. Tatters is first seen in the dream sequence, sitting by a wall.

In Central Evidence, Mr. Tatters can be seen walking around the entrance area, attempting to hunt down the protagonist. Throughout the night, he and the other antagonists play childhood games with the protagonist until 7 AM, where they burn down the building and escape. In the ending cutscene, Mr. Tatters is seen with the other dolls as Emily is scolded by Vult Ludere.

Gameplay

• At 111 PM, he can be seen in the dining room, the hallway, or the master bedroom.
• At 1AM, Emily leaves a message on the kitchen whiteboard, saying 'Don't Stay Still.' when Mr. Tatters appears. If the player move before or after he grunts, he attacks them, killing them instantly.
• At 2AM, Emily leaves another message, saying 'Don't Run From Chester' when the doll in question appears to help Mr. Tatters to kill the protagonist.
• At 3AM, she leaves another message, saying 'Isn't This So Fun?' when all three dolls become active to attack the protagonist.
• At 5AM, she leaves another message, saying 'Let's All Play! Come Find Me!' where Emily, Mr. Tatters, and the other dolls become active at the final level. The rules are the same; Find Emily while avoided the dolls and without turning the lights on. The basement is available in this level.
• At 6AM, Emily leaves the final message, saying 'That Was Fun! Let's Play Again Sometime!' where the protagonist can escape. If the player doesn't escape the house before the time limit ends, Mr. Tatters, Emily, or another random doll will kill the player.

Emily Wants To Play Too

Mr. Tatters first becomes active at 8 PM when the player unlocks Area 1. If players come across him, the lights will turn red and Mr. Tatters will throw his arms up at the player. The lights will then turn green and Mr. Tatters will turn to face his back towards the player. This is the player's chance to tag Mr. Tatters, and if they do, he will run away. He is active until 10:30 PM.

• At 12 AM, the protagonist will have to find all seven antagonists, including Mr. Tatters, in the dark before the timer ends.
• At 3 AM, Mr. Tatters, Kiki, and Chester will become active and attempt to kill the player. This is a callback to the first game and is titled 'Retro Hour' by Emily herself.
• At 4 AM, the antagonists will play Freeze Tag with the player. Mr. Tatters has the strongest advantage in the game and can freeze the player for a few seconds.
• At 5 AM, the player must hide in a dark corner as the antagonists search for them throughout Central Evidence.
• At 6 AM, the player must find Emily three times while avoiding the dolls and without reaching the time limit.
