| ~ Mr. Thunder and the captured Agent Mater. |
Mr. Thunder is a minor antagonist in the Cars franchise, serving as an overarching antagonist of the Cars: Radiator Springs comic book series by "Boom!Studios". He is a supervillain with an uncanny physical resemblance to Chick Hicks, who plotted to conquer the world but was stopped by Tow Mater and Lightning McQueen.
Biography[]
According to Tow Mater, he used to be a secret agent, and was once tasked with stopping the notorious villain Mr. Thunder from conquering the world. He searched for Thunder's headquarters on a snow-covered mountain, but was captured by his minions. Having Mater in his power, Mr. Thunder attempted to kill him with an igniter. However, to his shock, Lightning McQueen entered the scene and launched missiles at the gas balloons stored in the building, letting Mater escape before Mr. Thunder's lair is destroyed in the ensuing blaze.
Legacy[]
When Lightning wondered why Luigi and Guido had snow tires in their shop if it never snowed in Radiator Springs, Mater claimed that he needed them during his mission to stop Mr. Thunder, and told Lightning the whole story. McQueen, however, dismissed it as another one of Mater's "tall tales", only to be shocked by the sight of what seemed to be Mr. Thunder's minions driving through the town.
Appearance[]
Mr. Thunder looks almost exactly like Chick Hicks, sharing his model, body shape and color, but he lacks Chick's stickers and sports a black thundercloud-shaped insignia on his hood.
Personality[]
Not much is known about Mr. Thunder's personality, other than his desire to rule the world, but he appears to be sadistic, as he briefly toyed with Mater before attempting to kill him.
Trivia[]
- Much like the antagonists from Cars: Mater's Tall Tales, it's left unclear if Mr. Thunder really exists or if Mater made him and the whole story up. In fact, due to his very brief appearance, a lot of detail about him were left unknown:
- It's never confirmed if he is an alter-ego of Chick Hicks or a different character altogether.
- It's never revealed if he survived the destruction of his lair, although the appearance of his henchcars in the present suggests that he is still alive or at least had a successor.
- If he is actually Chick Hicks' alter-ego, he is certainly alive, as Chick regularly appears in the "Boom!Studios" comics.
- Mr. Thunder doesn't appear in the graphic novel adaptation of the "Radiator Springs" series, as Mater's story involving him was cut.
