The Hooded Man (actually Mrs. Baker) is the main antagonist of The New Scooby-Doo Movies episode "The Dynamic Scooby-Doo Affair". She is the leader of a money counterfeiting ring, who tries to stop Mystery Inc. and the Dynamic Duo from finding out about her illegal project. She's also allied with the notorious supervillains The Joker and Penguin, without them knowing her true identity.
She was voiced by the late June Foray.
Biography[]
Mystery Inc. and the Dynamic Duo were investigating a strange delivery to an old house where they met Mrs. Baker. She said she didn't know anything about the crate or why it was delivered there. When opening the crate they found a punch clown filled with counterfeit money. Outside Velma found car tracks left by the men who delivered the crate. Mrs. Baker told the gang they might lead to the auto-junkyard, and claimed it was haunted by spirits. Still, all of them went to the auto-junkyard. There they saw a Hooded Man (Mrs. Baker) sneaking around and nearly killing both Shaggy and Scooby by dropping a car they were hiding in into the car crusher. They were saved by Batman in the last minute. Fred tried to apprehend the Hooded Man but she managed to escape.
Everyone returned to Mrs. Baker's house but were schocked when they saw it, as well as the Batmobile, had disappeared. Batman and Robin drove the Mystery Machine to the Batcave to track down the Batmobile, and found out it was located at the Gotham City Amusement Park. At the park Mystery Inc. and the Dynamic Duo had a run in with The Joker and Penguin who, after being defeated and captured, told the gang that they weren't the brains behind the whole counterfeiting scheme, they worked together with someone they didn't even know. Fred asked if they knew anything about the vanishing house and Daphne asked if they knew who Mrs. Baker was. But The Joker only laughed it off and said they didn't know anything.
The gang, together with Batman and Robin, went back to the location of Mrs. Baker's house and saw that now it stood there as usual. After a while they figured out how the house could disappear and reappear. The house rotated underground and was controlled by a secret lever. Beneath the house they saw the Hooded Man again and chased after "him" into a secret undergound base, filled with various huge toys and large crates. They ran around chasing the Hooded Man and after a lot of shenanigans with the different toys, Batman and Robin were able to capture the Hooded figure. They interrogated "him" outside and asked where Mrs. Baker was. They all expressed concern of what happened to the "Poor, sweet old lady" and were all shocked when Mrs. Baker unmasked herself and revealed she was the Hooded Man all along. In the end Mrs. Baker was arrested and everyone cheered for Scooby who'd been crucial in capturing both The Joker, Penguin and Mrs. Baker.
Personality[]
Mrs. Baker first appears as a sweet and kind old lady to the gang as well as Batman and Robin, although it was merely a facade. The real Mrs. Baker is a callous, greedy and wicked old woman who tried to appear nice to avoid suspicion. She shows her evil and sinister nature when she tries to kill both Shaggy and Scooby by lowering them into a car crusher at an old junkyard. She is willing to do anything to keep her counterfeiting operation hidden, even attempting murder and working together with dangerous master criminals, Joker and Penguin. Her sweet facade managed to lure the gang and Dynamic Duo to never suspect her, even feeling pity for her alleged disappearance. They all were shocked when Mrs. Baker revealed that she was the Hooded Man and brains behind the whole counterfeiting scheme.
Trivia[]
- Mrs. Baker is notable for being the first ever female culprit unmasked in the Scooby-Doo franchise. Although chronologically, if A Pup Named Scooby-Doo is to be considered canon, the first female villain unmasked would be Prestina (the Ghost of Al Cabone).'
