Yaaaieeee! That that that Diamond... you're going to pay me with that Diamond?! O... o... okay, th... that's fine. I'll rip up this contract. *rrrrrip!* Don't tell anyone about the Diamond... Now the Runaway Five are free! ...You should thank me. That Diamond is worth maybe... MAYBE... $50. So I gave you a bargain. (Thump, thump... Thump, thump! I made lots of money...)
~ Ms. Fake

Ms. Fake is a supporting antagonist in EarthBound. She is a major antagonist in the Fourside arc in the game. She is one of the two contractors that swindle the Runaway Five into debt.

Personality[]

Ms. Fake is, not unlike her namesake, a liar. She manipulates people into contracts to keep her theatre in business. She has little initiative to admit defeat however, declaring that even when Ness was able to get the Runaway Five out of her contract, she could be risking taking a scam from them despite knowing well that the diamond given to her is real. Nonetheless, she keeps the diamond she is given gleefully.

Biography[]

At some point, Ms. Fake was able to get a contract with the popular singer Venus, who gave her theatre massive success in Fourside. However when the Runaway Five got out of their contract with the Chaos Theatre, she saw an opportunity to profit and coerced them into signing a shady contract. Bringing the band into even bigger debt than before, she manages to benefit from it as they are forced to only perform in Topolla Theatre whenever she wants.

When Ness reaches Fourside, he finds out that once again the band is in trouble. However, when the opportunity reveals itself Ness manages to find a diamond worth the amount of cash Ms. Fake demands, and much to her shock pays off the band's debt. Despite telling Ness that she's giving them a bargain by taking the Diamond upfront, she fails to hold her excitement. Ripping up the contract, she frees the Runaway Five.

Unlike the Chaos Theatre, the Runaway Five leaving Ms. Fake's contract doesn't put Topolla Theatre out of business at all, as Ms. Fake continues to host concerts with Venus, who is roughly as successful and continues to bring in audiences to her shows. Ultimately, even though the Runaway Five is no longer bound to her by contract, Ms. Fake gets off receiving a large sum on money and continuing to lead a successful business.

Trivia[]

  • Unlike Mr. Poochyfud, the previous swindler of the Runaway Five, Ms. Fake's sprite is reused several other times in game.
