Murray is a supporting antagonist in the sitcom Community, serving as the secondary antagonist of Season 3. A teacher at the Air Condition Repair School at Greendale Community College, he replaced Robert Laybourne as Vice Dean after he killed him.
He was portrayed by Dan Bakkedahl, who also played Balloonman in Gotham and Graydon Ostler in Grimm.
Biography[]
Murray was spying on Troy who was fixing a sink. The Air Condition repair school wanted Troy to join them instead of Plumbing. Murray had Troy kidnapped and brought to a secret test for the AC repair school.
Troy initially refused to join. However, Murray kept watching him. Murray informed Laybourne about an AC unit that Troy fixed, causing Laybourne to want Troy even more. This led Laybourne to start the Pillow War between Troy and Abed.
When Chang kidnapped the Dean and took over the school, Murray gave Troy inside information about how to break in. He offered to help if Troy joing the AC school, but Troy refused. However, after the Study Group's plan failed, Troy agreed. Murray later came to their apartment to force Troy to leave. Later Murray taught an AC class and taunted Troy for missing his friends.
Murray manipulated an AC unit to leak freon. He then told Vice Dean Laybourne to fix it. Vice Dean Laybourne was killed by inhaling the freon. Murray became the next Vice Dean and head of the AC repair school. Troy suspected Murray, so Murray told him to leave the school. Instead, Troy challenged Murray to a "Sun Chamber" contest, where they each had to repair an AC unit in an enclosed room while the temperature slowly increased. Troy easily won, causing Murray to angrily declare that he would kill Troy like he killed Laybourne. Murray was about to be killed by the heat, but Troy saved him. The students of the AC repair school wanted to take him to "The Infinite Labyrinth of Eternal Ice", but Troy exasperatedly told them to take him to the police, as he was a murderer.
