Musashi Miyamoto is the main antagonist of Baki-Dou (刃牙道), the fourth manga series in the Baki franchise. His body was cloned from tissue in the original Musashi's spine and the empty clone was infused with his original soul by the medium Sabuko Tokugawa, thus granting him all his past memories and skills. He was housed and fed by Mitsunari Tokugawa, who also set him up with powerful opponents to fight including many of the main cast.
Appearance[]
The Musashi clone's facial expression before having his soul infused was rather handsome and described as "sweet", not at all the face of a hardened warrior. Afterwards he's nearly unrecognizable from this handsome appearance. Though at first he just looks a bit odd and dopey, as his appearances continue he begins to look progressively more demonic and inhuman. He has a constant wide, dead-eyed look and usually wears a strong frown. This expression rarely changes even with shifts in mood, except for when he's tensing himself for a strike or particularly excited. In the latter case, his face often scrunches into a twisted grin with either whited out or crossed eyes. A man who came face-to-face with Musashi described his eyes as distinctly inhuman, like "glass orbs".
Musashi's body is well-built due to his experience, and rather stout compared to most of the other fighters. His neck-length black hair is loose and wild, mysteriously flowing in the air in a similar manner to Yujiro when he's particularly excited or angry. He usually wears a blue Gi with sandals or barefoot, either unarmed or with one or two katanas at his waist. Also notable is his naturally hunched-over stance.
Personality[]
While most characters in the Baki series are of the "fighter" personality archetype, Musashi is described as a "warrior". He fights not for the sake of fighting itself, but merely for recognition, monetary gain and/or survival; when Musashi sees a powerful and renowned opponent, he'll metaphorically see mountains upon mountains of gold or an endless hearty feast. Because of this, some characters such as Yujiro have described him as "impure". As a warrior from his era, combat is naturally life-or-death in his eyes. As such if someone seriously means to challenge him, no matter how weak they are compared to him, Musashi will usually kill that person without hesitation or remorse (unless he views a fight as simple practice, or particularly pities the opponent). When he was hunted down by police and later the military, Musashi ruthlessly cut down their commanders and anyone else who dared to attack even though they stood no chance, although he left those alive who surrendered. Like Pickle, he has little grasp of modern-day ethics and morality and often appears as a sociopath due to his actions and mannerisms. Despite this, he is shown to be capable of genuine companionships and shows of affection such as when he hugged Tokugawa out of gratefulness for his support.
Above all else, Musashi yearns for admiration and renown from the public, and the only way he knows to be admired is by cutting down mighty opponents. He was deeply pleased when he heard that he was still famous throughout Japan even centuries after his life. Despite having only attained public infamy as a deadly mass-murderer rather than admiration as a mighty swordsman, Musashi was still satisfied that he'd become well-known in the modern world through only cutting.
Musashi is straight-forward though mostly polite with his mannerisms, and sometimes aggressive when people tick his temper. He'll often use a technique to give people the illusionary sensation of being cut (such as severing the head or fully bisecting them) without actually harming their bodies, whether as a test, a threat, or a practical joke. He is excessively prideful and shows contempt for the bare-handed martial arts at first, though later on he grows to respect martial artists for turning their "fists into swords". He has a clear respect for strong fighters and can intuitively recognize strength, as he recognized Baki was amazingly strong despite easily defeating him at first using manipulation. He also gracefully accepted his defeat at the hands of Izou Motobe, although he viewed their fight as a mere practice match rather than a life-or-death battle.
Musashi is also recognized as being "alone" by some characters, as he was in his past life but even moreso now that essentially nobody else on the planet can properly relate to his situation or ways of thinking. At one point he does manage to bond with Pickle, due to them sharing the situation of being taken from their respective "worlds" into a modern one they have trouble understanding and adapting to.
