There's this mystique about art. A shared fiction, if you will. An artist presents a piece to the world in its finished form, and pretends that it simply appeared that way, effortlessly birthed from his genius. Both artist and audience prefer to believe that's the truth. It's nice to think that the really good creators have some direct connection to the divine. But it's a lie. In reality, it's hours and hours of missteps, frustration, and bad ideas that get sliced away to reveal some kind of truth. It's never easy. In fact... It's agony.

~ Muse's last words before succumbing to the fire and dying

Muse is a psychopathic serial killer and a minor antagonist in Marvel Comics, being an antagonist to Daredevil and Blindspot. He is a mysterious and deeply disturbed serial killer who believed he was giving purpose to his victims by turning them into twisted works of "art" via transforming their blood and gore into large murals or other displays.

Muse never reveals his true name, and his exact origins remain a mystery, with his exact powers being unexplained and how he obtained them being equally unknown, though it is likely he was some type of mutate (perhaps an Inhuman, considering he often targeted the Inhuman population).

A man with a massive god complex, he would question why heroes such as Daredevil cared for his victims and when finally defeated by Blindspot, refused to allow the hero to win, to the point where he rushed himself into a fire to apparently set himself ablaze in order to "master" his own fate, despite Blindspot trying to save his life.

Personality[]

Muse is a vicious serial killer who held contempt for others. He felt that his victims were worthless and only gained meaning when he made them into "art". He was ungrateful of any attempts at compassion, as he would massacre the Inhuman guards who had been treating him humanely despite his crimes. He also had no fear of authority, happily kidnapping a judge and killing several police officers. Even superheroes such as Daredevil and Blindspot were not entirely safe from Muse, as he would attack them with as much violence as anyone else if they interfered with his "artistic" vision.

His god complex was shown at its most extreme when he was finally faced with a true defeat at the hands of Blindspot. Unable to accept being at the mercy of another person he opted to attempted suicide rather than accept lasting punishment.

Trivia[]

  • Muse is confirmed to make an appearance via set photos in the upcoming Daredevil: Born Again Show where the character can be seen making graffiti art critiquing the moral nature of Wilson Fisk.
