The Muses, otherwise known as the Muse Colony or MOTHER Colony, are the titular main antagonists of the 2021 ARG, Don’t Feed The Muse. They're a race of alien-like creatures that seek to conquer Earth and replace humanity.
Biography[]
Origins[]
Their origins are left vague, and what they truly are is unknown. In fact, the Muses themselves are seemingly clueless as to what they actually are. However, they're implied to be an alien species of some kind, due to their lovcraftian forms and desire for world domination.
Happy Meat Farms[]
sometime in 2014, Happy Meat Farms, an organic farm company founded by Ramona Bynes in 1998, went bankrupt due to a decline in profits and failure to compete with name brand farms. However, one of the Muses (implied to be either MOTHER herself, or the Muse that would go on to steal Ramona’s identity) would team up with Ramona to save her failing company, causing it to expand in a new innovative direction. However, this also gave the Muses more control over the company, which not only lead them to do experiments on both animals and humans in order to feed MOTHER, but also made them more manipulative towards their lower-class employees. When Ramona eventually discovered the horrific crimes her corporation had been committing, she tried to stop them, only to be captured, mutated beyond recognition, and replaced by a Muse. Before she could be assimilated, however, she escaped from containment and stole files from Happy Meat Farms' servers. Following her escape, MOTHER and the Muses would gain full control over Happy Meat Farms, and the fake Ramona would continue to impersonate her as its CEO.
Eventually, the real Ramona would upload the video files to YouTube in an attempt to expose them. Seeing this, Happy Meat Farms covered it up by claiming that the videos were fake. However, despite their efforts, not everyone was convinced. This displeased MOTHER, and Happy Meat Farms would continue to search for her.
Jared Warrenheim[]
Jared Warrenheim was hired in 2016 as a computer technician. Due to his difficult childhood, the Muses saw him as a perfect candidate for their first host. MOTHER planted a spore in the ventilation system of the IT office. From there, they made first contact by speaking to Jared through the air ducts. At first, he believed it was a female employee in the office one floor above, but he could never find the actual source. He eventually started to notice that the voice was very similar to his mother's. Jared's entire self-worth and identity was built around his mother. Despite constant torment, he still believes that his mother cares for him deep down, and he would do anything for her approval. after 2 weeks, Jared's Muse befriended and gained his trust through the air ducts. over time, most of their conversations began to turn into talks about his mother. Eventually, Jared's Muse began a constant barrage of negative reinforcement about his mother. This would cause him to mentally replace his own mother for the Muses' queen, MOTHER. After much discussion, he managed to convince his mom to come to his place of work for a tour. He brought her to MOTHER’s chamber in the newly built HR building, pushed her inside and shut the door behind her. Not long after, his Muse took his form, assimilated him, and began digestion. However, several hours later, Jared was somehow able to stop the process, causing severe damage to his Muse. A few days later, Jared's Muse successfully digested him and reconnected with MOTHER. However, due to being in a defective form, assimilation was no longer possible. However, they were still seen as useful in the IT department, and their body was then mechanized so they could function effectively.
The IT Department[]
Sometime after Jared was digested, his Muse would continue to work as head of the IT Department. Over time, the IT Department became in charge of monitoring all the hosts and reporting directly to MOTHER herself. One of these hosts was Victoria Campbell, the Happy Meat Farms commercial director. She had a childhood trauma involving Hair, and her home was filled with it in order to weaken her. They also made a room filled with Hair in the HR building, and used it to make her even more vulnerable. Another host, Antonio Geist (Happy Meat Farms' video editor), began hiding images of their test subjects in the HMF welcome video. From there, they removed his fingernails in order to torture him, and he was later assimilated. Another host named William Wright, a biochemical engineer at Happy Meat Farms who lead their first genome tests[1], but refused human trials. He was then tortured using audio conditioning. However, this would eventually break his mind, making him inviable for digestion.
Conspiracy Carl[]
Sometime in 2021, a man named Carlton Mayhew (or simply Carl) receives a Muse. his Muse helps him become successful online, but also increases his paranoia, making him into a total conspiracy theorist. This was also the result of Happy Meat Farms in their attempt to make him into a suitable host for his Muse. Because of his Muse (and his increased paranoia), he, his website, and his videos got extremely popular, even starting a community known as "The Truth Seekers". However, his Muse started asking him for a living animal to eat, and so, he fed it his cat. This made his wife upset, eventually leading to a divorce. From there, he sent a Muse to his son, Mark. With his family out of the picture, his Muse was able to manipulate him further, and had more control over his content. Eventually, his wife developed pancreatic cancer as a result of consuming ground beef from Happy Meat Farms, and died as a result. This caused his relationship with his Muse to deteriorate, and he later uploaded an unlisted video titled "watch alone"[2] to a YouTube channel called coffeeman123 in an attempt to warn his son.
On November 12th, 2021, Carl records a livestream. A washing machine can be heard in the background, which he briefly says is so "it can't hear" him. He then starts talking about Alex Bale's Alien Death Cult Theory[3], but before he continues talking about it, he says that he was sponsored by Happy Meat Farms. However, while reading the text, he seems defeated and puts no energy into it (likely because they're the ones responsible for his ex-wife's death). Eventually, Carl breaks and picks up the camera, stating that he's done something terrible, and that everything he's told them was a complete lie. He then reveals that he was being controlled this entire time. he tosses his tin foil hat and enters a dark room. From there, he speaks directly to his son Mark, apologizing for everything that has happened, and desperately tells him not to plant the spore, but is then attacked by his Muse, and assimilated.
The New Carl[]
After Carl's assimilation, his Muse takes his place and makes a new video where he states that he "defeated the illuminati presence" within Carl's house. He then claims that they were manipulated and controlled by the illuminati, and that they wanted him to play the "crazy conspiracy theorist" and that he's going to take them down. He then ends the video by telling his viewers that he will be seeing them "very, very, soon".
The Cynical Critic[]
Mark Mayhew, Conspiracy Carl's son, started a channel called The Cynical Critics alongside his friend, Anthony Williams. The Cynical Critics was a channel where they made movie reviews[4]. At some point, however, Mark's Mother, Cecile Mayhew, got pancreatic cancer and was slowly dying as a result. Mark desperately wanted to earn money in order to save her, but their channel wasn't really that popular, and they weren't earning money from it. One day, Mark received a Muse from his father, which then gave him advice on how to make his channel more successful. His Muse even created its own channel titled "SONC THE BLUE RAT"[5], inspired by a drawing of Sonic he made as a kid. From there, his content started to get increasingly negative, which Anthony heavily disliked. Eventually, he emailed mark about how he didn't approve with the negative changes to their channel. sometime later, Mark uploads a new video titled "why PULP FICTION is kinda overrated?". However, according to Anthony, this was not the title they agreed on. From there, they had an argument in Mark's house, and Anthony says that he understands what's going on with his mom, but that it has nothing to do with the channel. Mark then pushes him down the stairs, killing him in the process. Mark then realizes what he's done, and disposes of the body, and the name of the channel is changed to "The Cynical Critic". With Anthony now gone, Mark's Muse has more control over the content he's making, and his popularity increased, providing him with money to help his mother.
Sometime later, Antonio's Muse (which now takes his form) showed up and partnered with Mark, becoming the channel's new co-host. From there, they make a video titled "Why all ANIMATION is for KIDS"[6]. In the video, they talk about how animated films and shows (and animation in general) are inherently for kids. However, before they can begin, Antonio's Muse reminds Mark of a sponsorship from Happy Meat Farms. Sometime later, Antonio's Muse takes out a drawing of Sonic made by Mark when he was a kid, and he questions where "Antonio" got it from, but he doesn't answer. Overtime, Antonio starts becoming a lot more manipulative towards Mark, and even mentions "a sick mother who can't afford health insurance", which clearly bothers Mark, but "Antonio" doesn't seem to care. At the end of the video, "Antonio" even tells Mark, "We're not going anywhere". Sometime later, Mark's Muse implants a spore in his neck, causing him to crave raw meat and making him noticeably uncomfortable.
On March 3rd, 2022, Mark uploads a video titled "Why THE PARADOX FILES is an underrated MASTERPIECE"[7] where they talk about a movie made by HMF Entertainment. However, despite being significantly different from other videos they've made in the past, this video was seemingly normal. However, near the end of the video, Mark gets a call. From there, Mark learns that his mother is now dead, causing him to lash out at "Antonio", telling him to get out of his house. However, Antonio seems unusually calm (possibly due to him being a Muse) asking if he's "done". "Antonio" then sighs, and the video cuts to Mark laying on the floor of his basement, and "Antonio" claims that he's Mark's "best friend" and that he doesn't want to hurt him. He that tells make that, "it's almost over".
Sometime after being gagged by "Antonio", Mark receives a link to an unlisted video titled "watch alone", and is instructed to make sure that he is alone, and that no one is watching him. The video tells him that his Muse is not his friend, and to get as far from his house as possible. It also warns him not to plant the spore. From there, Mark packs his things, and tries to leave his house, only to run into "Antonio". Mark than pushes "Antonio" down the stairs in the same way he did to Anthony, and tries to leave again, only to run into his Muse, stating that it can make him feel better. It then tries to assimilate him, but Mark reveals that he kept the spore and threatens to kill it. His Muse then allows him to leave. However, before he can, his Muse reveals what he did to Anthony, and "Antonio" shows up with the spore in his hand, and a large cut on his face with black goo leaking out of it. Mark's Muse then reveals that Anthony "belongs to MOTHER now" before assimilating mark. it then cuts to a clip of Mark and Anthony as they end the video, revealing that Mark has now been assimilated by his Muse.
