Stop hand

The ethereal gate closed! It won't open again! I am the absolute infallible detective killer!
~ Mushitaro to Ranpo.

Mushitarō Oguri is a supporting character in the manga and anime series Bungo Stray Dogs. He serves as main antagonist of The Perfect Crime Arc. He is a former captive of The Seventh Agency and a former member of the Rats in the House of the Dead. He's based of the Japanese author with the same name.

He is voiced by Takeshi Kusao in Japanese and by Mick Lauer in English.

Appearance[]

Mushitaro is a young man with slick back black hair slicked over to the left of his forehead. He has yellow eyes that consist of several rings around his pupils.

Clothing wise, Mushitaro dresses sharply. He wears a light green fitting suit accessorized with a black bowtie and a pocket square.

Personality[]

Mushitaro is a man with a big ego who takes pride in his special ability, saying that no detective can ever hope to catch him because of it, call himself 'the King of Crime' and that no one on Earth can force him to repent.

Although he keeps a calm compositor with his ego, Mushitaro can be a very dramatic individual and it's usually played for comic relief. This is shown when he was trying so hard to get Ranpo off his tail and when Ranpo was inches away from uncovering the truth about the murder behind the author Yokomizo. Another dramatic moment of his is when Kōyō and Atsushi unexpectedly broke him out of a bank seek information from him about the Decay of the Angel to help prove the Agency's innocence and he started to speak German gibberish out of confusion.

Despite his ego and pride in his ability, Mushitaro get pretty down when his deceased friend is brought to mind. He's not too fond of mystery novel himself but he sometimes writes mystery stories (though he would struggle with it), thinking that he would find his dear friend appear to him during such times whenever he yearns for his company. He is also protective of his dead friend's reputation to his "ultimate mystery", doing whatever it takes to preserve the public's reception towards Yokomizo's final legacy entrusted to him.

Abilities[]

The Perfect Crime % 28manga% 29

The Perfect Crime is Mushitaro's ability, it allows him to perfectly destroy all evidence of any crime even the crimes he commits. It takes the form of small, invisible creatures coming out of his body and tampering with objects. He was captured and forced to use his powers to cover up the crimes of a government organization called the Seventh Agency and later on recruited by Fyodor Dostoevsky to cover his tracks. It can cause even a great detective like Ranpo to get stumped despite later on uncovering the mystery.

Trivia[]

  • The birthname of the real life Mushitarō Oguri is Eijirō Oguri (小栗 栄次郎).
