Salvatore "Mustang Sally" Intile is a minor antagonist in the third season of the HBO Television Series The Sopranos.
He is the reckless, impulsive and sociopathic godson of Bobby Baccalieri, Sr., an infamous hitman of the DiMeo Crime Family in New Jersey. While not a part of the Mafia, he is a well-known small-time crook due to his hot-headed nature.
He was portrayed by the late Brian Tarantina.
Biography[]
Salvatore Intile is the godson of Bobby Baccalieri, Sr. which was only done as a favor for Intile's father, both of whom Bobby was never a huge fan of. He gained his nickname from owning his 1989 Ford Mustang convertible, which he loves. Sally dated a stripper, Tina Francesco, who worked at the Bada-Bing and was also friends with Adriana La Cerva. For some unknown reason, Sally gained a possessive and short-tempered nature, which he would use to intimidate others and abuse Tina. Sally first became infamous, however, when he threw a hotdog vendor off the second floor mezzanine at the Giants Stadium for his hotdog "having too many onions".
While Bryan Spatafore and his associate are in New York City getting supplies for their construction company, Mustang Sally and Tina happen to be arguing in his car behind Bryan's truck. Tina rushes out of the truck and walks up to Bryan, waiting for his associate to return from a store. Tina begs Bryan for a ride, but he declines and Sally, taking this as her trying to cheat on him, beats Bryan in the head with a golf club, putting him in a coma, with Sally leaving with Tina afterward. Word gets back to Tony Soprano and Bryan's brother, Vito, both made men in the DiMeo Family, who are angry at the matter. And since Bobby Sr. is back in town, Tony orders him to murder Sally in retaliation for his recklessness.
Bobby Sr. travels to Sally's house in Staten Island and is welcomed by Sally, referring to him as "Uncle Bobby". Bobby sits down with Sally and paints him a picture of how serious the situation is. Eventually, Bobby tells him that he gave him a pass to which, Sally joyfully exclaims his gratefulness for Bobby's gesture, with him even implying that he too wishes to join the family. Afterwards, Sally goes to the sink and begins making jokes about Bryan and even asks Bobby if he should visit him at the hospital. However, before Bobby can kill Sally, Sally's roommate, Carlos sees Bobby with his gun and distracts Bobby and Sally, with Bobby only being able to shoot him in the ear. The two struggle with the gun, before Bobby grabs it and shoots Sally in the head, killing him, before murdering a terrified Carlos.
Personality[]
While being a very minor character, Sally is one of the most evil characters in the series due to him being extremely callous, reckless, psychotic and selfish. He cares for nobody's well-being but himself and doesn't even care about injuring Bryan until he realizes that he was a Mafia associate. Sally even jokes about his injuries later in the episode. Not to mention the fact that he almost murdered a man for giving him too many onions on his hotdog. Overall, Sally is one of the most evil, chaotic and heartless characters in the series.
