Stop hand

It's okay to have no friends and be miserable like me!
~ Nabnab's motto.
The Spider is real, and these tables won't hold it back.
~ Note found in the Comms Sector warning about Nabnab.

Nabnab, sometimes referred to as The Twisted One, was a supporting antagonist in the 2023 indie-horror game series Garten of Banban.

Appearance[]

Nabnab is a blue monster vaguely resembling a spider, albeit with only four legs. Nabnab's tongue is always extended out from his spiky maw, a feature not present in the original design featured on murals, and he wears a monochromatic party hat that he loses in the fourth game.

Personality[]

Nabnab has been described as a lonely creature, and the staff of the Kindergarten had speculated that his loneliness is the reason for his hostility.

As one of the monsters in the kindergarten, Nabnab is essentially animalistic, and is perpetually on the hunt. Nabnab still retains his loneliness from his original depiction, and immediately stops being a threat once he meets Nabnaleena, a character specifically designed to be his friend. It's should also be of note that Nabnab does seem to have intelligence to some degree, as he stalks the protagonist on several points during their journey.

Biography[]

Past[]

Before the events of the game, the staff at Banban's Kindergarten were brainstorming ideas as to what mascots to include, with Nabnab being one of them. However, any ideas to include him as part of the main roster was scrapped to save resources on other mascots due to his potential to unnerve the students.

Eventually, Nabnab was created, presumably using Givanium mixed with spider DNA, as Banban states Nabnab wasn't an original member of the monsters that roam the place.

Shortly before the story begins, the Comms Sector was under attack by Nabnab, who was presumed to have been nonexistent by employees at the time. Despite any last ditch efforts to barricade and warn the rest of the place from Nabnab, the spider escaped. He, alongside the rest of the hostile mascots, wrecked havoc on the place, turning it into the dangerous environment seen today.

Garten of Banban II[]

Nabnab makes his first physical appearance stalking the protagonist near the entrance to the Comms Sector, hiding behind a doorway that they had just gone through. Should they decide to turn back, Nabnab will flee.

Nabnab doesn't pose any threat until later on in the game, where the player has to retrieve a keycard from the storage closet. After obtaining it, Nabnab suddenly makes his presence known. The protagonist needs to use the pink and blue arrows on the ground in order to advance, with blue meaning to follow, with pink being avoided. After evading Nabnab, he heads back to the Storage Area.

While Nabnab is no longer a threat by this point, he still has his eye on the player. Should the player attempt to go back after the chase with Banbaleena and Jumbo Josh, Nabnab will be staring at them, blocked off by a hospital bed.

Garten of Banban III[]

Nabnab appears once again in the third installment, first seen stalking the player in the Cafeteria. Attempting to approach him will once more cause him to flee.

After meeting up with Stinger Flynn, Nabnab's room is open, signaling that he's on the hunt. Attempting to enter at this state will cause Nabnab to attack, so a work around had to be done.

By Banban's instructions, the protagonist gives life to Nabnaleena, a friend specifically for Nabnab. Venturing back to Nabnab's room and playing an audio lure will cause him to leave his room, before noticing Nabnaleena for the first time. The two observe each other, and immediately seem to hit it off. The two try to explore, but are suddenly interrupted offscreen by either Jumbo Josh or Stinger Flynn, with Nabnab being kidnapped by the hulking beast. Nabnaleena hurries back to the safety of Nabnab's room, dropping Nabnab's signature hat in the process.

In the second hallucination, Nabnab can be seen following the protagonist behind Stinger Flynn's car. After waking up, the protagonist is in a room with Banbaleena and Nabnab, with the spider knocked out. The room is guarded by Jumbo Josh, but Banbaleena and the protagonist eventually break the security system and escape. It's likely that Nabnab had done so too after he woke up.

Garten of Banban IV[]

When entering the ventilation sector with Sheriff Toadster and Little Beak, Nabnab is lurking in the vent waiting to kill the protagonist. The protagonist must use Little Beak to warm them if Nabnab is in the vents or not.

The protagonist wakes up in a hallucination after the car crash sitting on a log with Captain Fiddles and Nabnab. Nabnab offers the protagonist a vegetable when there is only one more left. With Stinger Flynn commenting on this saying "I've never witness kindness coming from a spider before.". A train whistle is heard in the distance and Choo Choo Charles appears and is about to kill Banban until Nabnab calms down Charles and the two bond but die to the explosion caused by the stinger mobile.

When the protagonist and Banban are about to give Mr. Kabob Man to Zolphius Nabnab jumps down hanging on the railing next to the abyss and steals Mr. Kabob Man. The Protagonist and Banban then chase after Nabnab to save Mr. Kabob Man. Banban corners Nabnab and the two fight until Banban turns into his hellish form and knocks out Nabnab, claiming that he is unfixable.

Garten of Banban VI[]

Nabnab joins the Protagonist, Banban and Bittergiggle with finding the scepter. At the end of the game Banban injects Nabnab with givanium which turns the latter into a giant monster who fights Sir Dadadoo. It’s unknown what happen to him after that as he is not seen with the rest of brainwashed monsters.

Garten of Banban VII[]

Nabnab does make a physical appearance but is mentioned via employee training video.

Trivia[]

  • Nabnab is thought of as Banban's opposite. While the two have a somewhat similar design, both have their tongue sticking out in their monster forms, and both wear party hats, the two share numerous differences with each other, such as:
    • Banban being friends with everyone, while Nabnab is lonely.
    • Banban is red, while Nabnab is blue.
    • Banban wears two colorful party hats, Nabnab wears one monochrome hat.
    • Nabnab's name is literally Banban's name, but backwards.
  • Nabnab's model without eyes can be found out of bounds, this could have been its original design.
  • It is revealed that Nabnab is a rejected mascot, along with Sheriff Toadster and Slow Seline. The reason specifically being that Nabnab is too disturbing by the other staff, along with the fact that Weverly Mason is afraid of it.
  • During Banbaleena's chase sequence, Nabnab can be seen stalking the protagonist on the ceiling of the Assembly Room doors along with peering at them through a blocked off hallway.
  • His alias, The Twisted One, was a name given to him by the developers in a teaser for Garten of Banban II.[1]
    • In fact, it's also the name of his theme that plays during his chase sequence.
  • Nabnab is the second mascot that turned into a hellish form, the first being Banban.
