~ Nale. |
Nalan'Elin, more commonly known as Nale, is a major antagonist in The Stormlight Archive, by Brandon Sanderson. He was the former Herald of Justice under Honor, and serves as the Patron of the Order of Skybreakers. In the present he is working with the Singers to defeat the humans.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Nale was born on the Planet Ashyn. He travelled to the planet Roshar with the rest of the humans. Roshar was already inhabited by the Singers. The two species would have wars known as "Desolations". He became a herald of Honor. Nale and the other Heralds entered into the Oathpact. Under the Oathpact, certain Singers, when killed, would have their souls sent to the planet Braize where they would be trapped. Whenever a Herald was killed, their soul would also be sent to Braize, also. The Singers could torture the Heralds for eternity on Braize, which was therefore also known as Damnation. If the Heralds ever gave up, the Singers and Heralds would be free to return to Roshar, and a new Desolation would begin.
Nale eventually became a Skybreaker and led the other Skybreakers. After several Desolation, the constant torture became too much for the Heralds, and Nale, along with the others, abandoned their posts as Heralds.
Nale wanted to prevent another Desolation. He would do this by hunting Surgebinders. Due to his belief in Justice he would wait for them to commit a crime and then execute them on the pretense to meting out justice.
Stormlight Archive[]
Nale got into contact with King Gavilar Kholin and joined the Sons of Honor, not realizing that Gavilar wanted to bring another Desolation. He found out from Venli that Gavilar was planning a Desolation, so he sent her Szeth, to assassinate the King.
Nale continued his work hunting Surgebinders. He was particularly interested in killing Lift, but she managed to escape him. He found Szeth right after he died and managed to resurrect him, and recruited him to the Order of Skybreakers.
AFter the Everstorm, Nale had a mental breakdown. Afterwards, he continued to lead the Skybreakers. He would have them hunt and execute criminals. He informed them that he intended to join the Singers, as they were the indigenous people of Roshar. Szeth then left Nale to join Dalinar Kholin.
Nale and the Skybreakers joined the Singers and battled against Dalinar's army. He tried to convince Dalinar to surrender, but failed.
