| “ | While they scurry to and fro, I am. While they cherish their pretty deities, idols, and false lords, I am. While they fight their trivial wars, live and die for mortal kings and scoundrels, I am. All priests of false gods kneel to Me. All kings and empires great and small kneel to Me. Life kneels to Me. Death kneels to Me. | „ |

The Nameless God is the main antagonist and final boss of the 2016 indie video game Salt and Sanctuary.
Biography[]
The Nameless God was once a mortal man who, envious of his lack of power, turned against the Three to become a god himself. He usurped the Three's powers by burying them alive within the Crypt of Dead Gods. Once the Three died by becoming forgotten, the man absorbed their powers to become a god himself. As a god, the Nameless God initiates all wars around the world so he could be permanently worshiped as the only god, demanding human sacrifices as an offering to stop one war but not the others. When that would not work, the Nameless God instead creates an island comprised of land masses from areas around the world so that he could instead feed off their disparity to keep himself immortal. He has Kraekan Dragon Skourzh conduct storms across the island to sink ships and gather the souls of the drowned victims while the other Kraekans were ordered to kill all those who survived and reached the island.
In the form of a scarecrow, the Nameless God appears throughout the player's adventure, taunting them and attempting to manipulate them into giving up their quest. Despite his taunts, the player keeps going through their quest, besting his Kraekans and Skourzh until they reach the Still Palace and engage in a final battle with the Nameless God. He is a powerful foe with high resistances to elemental attacks but weak to striking weapons. He attacks using his spear and sword, the Overlord's Bident and Blade of Envy respectively, occasionally shooting magical energy bolts at the player.
Despite the Nameless God's extreme power, the player hinders through and ultimately defeats him, leaving only his ashes behind. Behind his throne, the player encounters a large hole and the scarecrow, now bare from the lack of its host. If the player jumps through the hole, the Survival ending occurs where they are taken away on a boat, but the island breaks apart and sinks within the sea. If the player instead grabs the Overlord's Turban from the scarecrow, the Dominion ending occurs where the player takes the Nameless God's place as the ruler of the island, leaving them forever trapped in the endless war.
Personality[]
The Nameless God is a cruel and brute tyrant of a god, having purposely led the previous gods of the world into a trap where he buries them alive to steal their powers for himself. However, the item description of the Blade of Envy explains that the Nameless God is not made of fire, but rather salt, making him not immortal. Killing him ends his mad and futile quest to obtain a candlelit soul.
