~ Geppetto unleashing the Nameless Puppet on P should the latter refuse to give up his P-Organ.

The Nameless Puppet is a major antagonist in the 2023 Soulslike video game Lies of P. It is an optional boss that becomes the game's final boss in the event that the player refuses to give P's heart to Giuseppe Geppetto.

Biography[]

The Nameless Puppet is, according to the in-game achievement, the very first puppet ever created by Giuseppe Geppetto. It came to be after a grief-stricken Geppetto sought to revive his son after his untimely death due to the Petrification Disease.

Geppetto used a corpse (heavily implied to be Carlo's corpse) and placed a P-Organ which contained Carlo's Ergo inside of the puppet. However, the puppet's Ergo efficiency was both unremarkable and destructive, and risked the destruction of Carlo's Ergo. Because of this, Geppetto sealed the puppet away in a trunk.

Geppetto then decided to create another puppet that could safely absorb Ergo so that its P-Organ would be strong enough to withstand the Nameless Puppet's body. Eventually, Geppetto created P, a puppet sharing the visage of Carlo, not bound by the Grand Covenant. Geppetto also instigated the Puppet Frenzy, which resulted in nearly the entire population of Krat being killed, so that P could destroy and absorb the Ergo of the frenzied puppets. While P did destroy most of the puppets, he eventually crossed paths with the Alchemists and their leader, Simon Manus, the latter hoarding a massive supply of Ergo at the Arche Abbey and an artifact called the Arm of God that Geppetto also needed to revive Carlo.

After Simon's death at the hands of P, he traveled to the lowest part of the Abbey, where Geppetto waited. Geppetto promised to turn P into a real boy if P gave his heart. However, P refused, much to Geppetto's disappointment and anger. Deciding that P needed to be punished, Geppetto opened the trunk holding the Nameless Puppet. Using a control device inside his left hand, Geppetto used blue strings that linked to the Nameless Puppet and awakened it. The Nameless Puppet rose from the trunk with a large scissor/sword hybrid weapon and engaged in combat with P so that Geppetto could forcibly take P's heart.

The Nameless Puppet and P fought to a standstill, and, after charging towards each other, P sliced the top of the Nameless Puppet's head off. The strings holding the Nameless Puppet snapped, turning orange. Its exposed head then exploded, and its sword now glowed red. Driven by hate, the Nameless continued the fight with P, its attacks now stronger and more aggressive.

The Nameless eventually overpowered P, knocking him to the ground. It attempted to kill P by jumping in the air and plunging its sword directly into P's heart. However, Geppetto got into the way of the attack, being stabbed in the chest. Geppetto asked if the Nameless Puppet was trying to destroy Carlo's heart. Using this distraction, P drove his mechanical arm into the Nameless Puppet's chest, ripped out its P-Organ, and crushed it, killing the puppet.

Trivia[]

  • The Nameless Puppet is unique in two ways:
    • It is the only optional boss in Lies of P to have an achievement tied to it.
    • It is the only enemy in the game to wield a weapon that can't be broken, despite it glowing red upon a successful Perfect Guard.
  • The Nameless Puppet's fight can be avoided even after refusing to give your heart to Geppetto: should the player use the Under the Abyss Stargazer after losing against the Nameless Puppet, the choice to give your heart will be at the bottom.
  • If the Nameless Puppet defeats the player, it will squat down over P's body, seemingly to take his P-Organ.
