~ Nan to Marnie. |
Georgina Gordon, also simply known as Nan, is the main antagonist in When Marnie Was There. She is an governess and abusive caretaker of Marnie and lives on the Marsh mansion. She and the maids are the bullies of Marnie while her parents are away from traveling.
She was voiced by Kazuko Yoshiyuki in the Original Japanese dub and Ellen Burstyn in the English dub.
Biography[]
When Marnie's parents are always traveling abroad, she is left behind with Nan who always yanks her by the arm and brushes her hair roughly to hurt her so much. She and the twin maids, Ursula and Ella De Vil abuse her physically and psychologically.
Marnie has no option but to stay with Nan and the maids that constantly bully her when the parents are not around. While Nan and the maids were having tea, Marnie sneaks out from the house and had fun in the woods.
Marnie invited Anna Sasaki as a guest for her parents' dinner party, but Nan tells her it is past her bedtime then Marnie and Anna ran up the stairs and Nan chased them into Marnie's room. Nan said to Marnie she is nothing but trouble, but with Anna's help, they tricked Nan into being locked in Marnie's room.
After the party, Marnie's parents were traveling again, and Nan disciplines Marnie for her past actions from the night before.
As time passed on, Marnie moved away from Hokkaido to Sapporo, Japan and got married to Kazuhiko. Nan and the maids were never seen again, and they were presumably fired by Marnie's parents and arrested for their crimes of abusing Marnie, or died getting struck by lightning like Anna hoped.
