Naomi Jayne Mathesen (née Blestow) is a major antagonist in the epiosde "Nosedive" of the anthology dystopian series Black Mirror.

She is a high-status socialite who is the childhood friend of Lacie Pound, the episode's protagonist.

She is portrayed by Alice Eve, who also portrayed Emma Frost in the X-Men film series and Typhoid Mary in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Personality

Naomi comes across as charming and sweet, but in reality she is a scheming, self-obsessed individual who cares only about her social rating and perception. She looks down on Lacie due to her lower social rating, weight and appearance.

Biography

Background

Naomi and Lacie attended the same school together and were apparently best friends. Their friendship seemingly was superficial, although Naomi did support Lacie with an eating disorder. At some point, Naomi slept with Greg (hinted either to be Lacie's boyfriend at the time, or her crush).

After school, Naomi and Lacie stopped speaking. During this time, she met Paul, who would later become her husband. She became exceptionally wealthy and popular in the world.

Black Mirror

In a universe built on social ratings (where those with the lowest rates are treated poorly in society), Lacie Pound finds Naomi's social profile and learns she is highly-rated. Lacie then tries to prompt Naomi to get in touch with her by posting a photograph of Mr. Rags, their old toy.

Naomi falls for this and invites Lacie to her wedding. As Lacie travels, her rating begins to dwindle after various unlucky interactions. Naomi notices this and tells Lacie not to come anymore due to her rating, and that she has been superficial all the time, planning only to invite her due to what her rating was, not because they are friends. This sends Lacie into a manic spiral who disobeys Naomi and comes to the wedding. Naomi acts horrified as Lacie delivers a semi-improvised maid of honour speech - Naomi has Lacie arrested, where she is put in prison.
