The unnamed narrator of "How Not to be Seen" is a minor antagonist in Monty Python's Flying Circus and And Now For Something Completely Different.
He was portrayed by John Cleese, also played other Monty Python villains such as Mr. Hilter, French Taunter and High Priest, as well as Cat R. Waul in Fievel Goes West and Dr. Glickenstein in Igor.
Biography[]
The narrator narrates the Monty Python sketch "How Not to be Seen", as it is disguised as a public service announcement about not being seen, but is in actuality just an excuse for the narrator to kill people. All of the people are hiding from the narrator, but he knows where they are hiding. He shoots them when they reveal themselves and blows up their hiding spots. He then starts blowing up several buildings, then cities, counties, and whole countries, all while laughing manically. He is one of the few examples of a homicidal terrorist played for laughs.
The sketch was remade in And Now For Something Completely Different as the opening sketch of the film, in which the narrator is John Cleese's BBC announcer character. In this version, the sketch ends with the announcer stopping mid-maniacal laugh to look into the camera and says "and now for something completely different" before himself being blown up.
