~ Natalie trying to convert Kathy. |
Natalie Ennis is a minor antagonist of the Rusty Quill horror podcast The Magnus Archives.
Initially, she was a somewhat normal, if extremely Christian, woman living in London. After the death of her mother, she lost faith in her religion and turned to the People's Church of the Divine Host, a cult worshiping a god-like entity called the Dark. After failing to convert her roommate, she became an influential member, participating in a failed attempt at the "Extinguished Sun" ritual, and helping the cult's leader, Maxwell Rayner, find a new body.
Appearance[]
Natalie Ennis isn't described in detail, but she seems to be a normal looking young woman, if somewhat off-putting. After joining the People's Church of the Divine Host, she began wearing a black cloak.
Personality[]
Before joining the People's Church, Natalie was an introverted person, who generally preferred to be on her own. She was kind, but extremely religious, and didn't seem to have any sort of sense of humor. Her only real interests were politics, crochet, and Christianity, and she did not watch television. She seemed to find a large amount of comfort in her faith.
After the death of her mother, she descended into nihilism, losing faith in Christianity, before replacing it with an even more extreme devotion to the People's Church. She entirely and completely dedicated herself to the new organization and was fully involved in every aspect of it. She had no problems with the less savory activities of the People's Church, seemingly accepting that their rituals would kill untold numbers of people, and even showing some happiness at the prospect, because those people are not worshipers of the Dark.
Biography[]
Natalie Ennis came from a devoutly Christian home and was very close with her mother. In October 2014, she was living in an apartment in London with her childhood friend Katherine Harper. Her main focus in her life was her religion, and she had a vaguely antagonistic relationship with Kathy's boyfriend Mark Bilham. After the death of her mother, she was devastated, and lost her faith, getting rid of every religious item she owned.
Around this time, she joined the People's Church of the Divine Host, devoting her entire life to it. She began spending more time at the Hither Green Chapel, where the cult was residing at that time, spending many nights there. When she spent the night in the apartment she shared with Kathy, she would sing in a language meant to please the Dark and unscrew lightbulbs so they would not produce light. She also began to help prepare for the "Extinguished Sun" ritual to bring the Dark into the world.
One night, Natalie invited Kathy for dinner, hoping to convert her. She tried to explain the People's Church to the best of her ability and told her she was moving in with the other cult members, and that Kathy should come with her. Kathy refused, and when Natalie persisted, fled the room in fear. Seemingly unperturbed by losing her old friend, Natalie returned to the Hither Green Chapel to begin the ritual. However, she and the other cultists were interrupted by Mark Bilham, who was angry at Natalie. Although he did not find any cultists, he inadvertently ruined Natalie's part of the ritual.
Natalie remained in the cult for a few years and helped Maxwell Rayner kidnap a young boy named Callum Brodie. In the basement an Outer Bay Shipping building in Harringay, she watched as Rayner tried to transfer his consciousness into Callum's body. However, this ritual was interrupted by a group of police officers with experience with the supernatural, who shot and killed Maxwell Rayner. Natalie was able to kill one of them with a knife before being shot and killed herself.
Powers and Abilities[]
Joining the People's Church of the Divine Host does not seem to have given Natalie any significant supernatural abilities. That being said, she is apparently one of the only humans who can look upon the Dark Star without dying.
Trivia[]
- Natalie is mentioned by Manuela Dominguez in MAG 143: Heart of Darkness, who says she was one of the most invested worshipers of the Dark.
