Nate and Otis Grimes are the main antagonists of the 2017 live action/animated slapstick film Woody Woodpecker. They are two greedy and cruel taxidermists who plan on capturing Woody Woodpecker and killing him to stuff him into a trophy and sell him in auction.
Nate was portrayed by Scott McNeil and Otis was portrayed by Adrian Glynn McMorran.
Appearance[]
Both are Caucasian men with brown hair and beards, camouflage hats and jackets, green pants, and boots. However they have some differences. For example, Nate’s hair is longer than Otis’s, Nate also wears earrings, Nate’s jacket is more black than Otis, and Otis’s hat is styled like a baseball cap where Nate’s hat is styled like a cowboy hat.
Woody Woodpecker[]
Nate and Otis Grimes are first seen in a forest going hunting. Nate reads a sign that says “No Poaching”, “Punishable by a $10,000 fine and 2 years in state prison” and takes it down. Then, they are spotted by Woody, who tells them to leave the forest, which they refuse. They try to shoot him but Woody does many tricks to make them miss, such as carving a target into a tree to make the tranquilizer hit that, and would fly in between the two and pretend to give up. He flew up right when the two tried to shoot him, causing them to hit each other and become unconscious. They are later seen at their hideout in an old wooden barn full of stuffed animals and mounted trophies of other animals they hunted. There, they go on a computer trying to find Woody. Nate scrolls until Otis finds Woody, saying thats the woodpecker they saw, called the Pileated Red Crowned Woodpecker. Woody is described as the size of a crow and the largest bird in the area, and that birds of his type are thought to be extinct, with the last known bird of his kind sold at an auction for $500,000. They happily say they must catch him and turn him into a trophy and sell him in auction. They later meet Tommy, the son of Lance Walters, and his friends when they accidentally trespassed in their hideout, and Nate threatens to kill them if they ever came back. They later meet Lance Walters when Walters says Woody has met him and has become too much of a problem and needs him gone. They show how they would catch him, being unsuccessful again until Lance managed to destroy his home, and tase him, so they could cage him and bring him back to their hideout. Tommy tried to warn his father since before that Nate and Otis Grimes wouldn’t release Woody back into the wild, but use him for taxidermy. Lance was sorry for what he did so he called the police to get him back. Tommy and his friends went back to the Grimes brother’s hideout where they were starting to put Woody up for auction. Although Tommy and his friends tried, they were put in a cage, and when Lance went inside, he raged at Nate seeing what he and Otis did to his son. He and Officer Samantha Bartlett were put in a cage, and Woody had to get them out. Woody then fought off the Grimes Brothers, and realizing the police were coming, the Grimes brothers had to flee from their hideout on an ATV and escape to Canada. Before they can flee, Woody manages to drill a trapdoor under a bridge they were standing on causing them to fall into the river below. Once they get back to shore, they tried to get away but were stopped by the police and Woody began acting crazy around them. Tired of being defeated by Woody, the Grimes Brothers willfully surrender to the police, saying Woody is crazy, to which Woody responds it is their turn to live in a cage so they know how it feels what they did to Woody and all the other animals they used for their taxidermy. As of Woody Woodpecker Goes To Camp, it is unknown what happened to them as they were replaced by Buzz Buzzard, even though their defeats were similar.
Trivia[]
- Nate and Otis Grimes are the first Woody Woodpecker villains to be live-action. They were followed by Buzz Buzzard’s accomplice Darren in Woody Woodpecker Goes to Camp.
- They are probably more evil than Buzz Buzzard in Woody Woodpecker Goes To Camp, since they actually were trying to kill Woody directly and sell him as a trophy for money, unlike Buzz Buzzard who was simply trying to be rich from finding Obadiah’s gold, and trying to destroy Camp Woo Hoo and have Woody framed for it.
