Nathalie Sancoeur, formerly known as Mayura, is a major character of the Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir franchise. She is the assistant of Gabriel Agreste/Hawk Moth, who aids him in his quest to steal the Miraculouses of Ladybug and Cat Noir and revive his wife Emilie out of both dedication and romantic feelings.
She would later begin using the Peacock Miraculous to become the villain Mayura, further assisting Hawk Moth's goals by creating powerful Sentimonsters; although she would be forced to retire her identity after being injured by the damaged Miraculous.
Later on, as a result of Gabriel's growing obsession with the Miraculous, she would eventually start to turn against him, remaining loyal only for the sake of protecting his son, Adrien. In the season 2 finale episodes "Catalyst" and "Ladybug", she is Akumatized into Catalyst, a villain capable of enhancing superpowers. In "Passion", she is again Akumatized into Safari, a hunting-themed villain who never misses her targets.
In the French dub, she is voiced by Nathalie Homs. In the English dub, she is voiced by Sabrina Weisz.
Appearance[]
As Nathalie, she stands at an average adult height, and her eyes are a dull blue. Her hair is blue and pulled back into a bun, and the hair on the right side of her head is dyed red. On her face, Nathalie has glasses with black and red striped frames and on her eyes, she has periwinkle eye shadow. She wears a red turtleneck sweater, a black dress jacket, black pants, and black high heel shoes. She also has round creamy white earrings.
As Mayura, her eyes have pink irises and sclerae that are pink which fade into dark indigo, and there is black liner around her eyes, resembling glasses. Her skin is light indigo, and her hair is dark blue, and part of it curls up underneath her left eye. She wears a peacock feather-like cocktail hat, being blue and tear-shaped with a light pink mark in the center and a light blue, translucent veil over her right eye. She wears a blue dress with a fuzzy black collar and sleeves that end in a point on the back of her hand. The dress appears to have a set hexagonal texture. The bottom of the dress has a front slit skirt, and the end of the skirt has rounded points with dark blue, light, pink-centered spots, resembling a peacock's tail feathers. The rounded points are edged with translucent, light blue material. Underneath the dress, she has translucent indigo tights that are opaque from the knees down, making the opaque section resemble high-heeled boots. She holds a blue hand fan, which is similar in design to the end of her skirt, and a peacock feather-like object in her other hand.
As Catalyst, she has periwinkle skin. Over her head, while leaving her mouth exposed, she wears a black helmet with a red visor with black edges and a red spike pointing towards the back of her head. Catalyst also wears a black dress suit with stiff shoulders, including a dark red front and swan neck collar that features a red downward arrow-shaped section in the center. The sleeves cover her entire arms, with the tips of her fingers fading into red. Also, Catalyst has pocket-like ridges on each side of her hips, and her pant legs come down to her feet, having red high-heels, soles, and tips.
Personality[]
Nathalie possesses a rather cold and distant demeanor, very rarely showing her emotions around others. She is consistently serious, organized, and diligent in performing her duties as Gabriel's assistant, yet is otherwise cordial and professional when it comes to dealing with others, such as reasoning with either Adrien or Gabriel when they act inconsiderate or emotionally (typically in relation to one another) or when assisting Ladybug with protecting Gabriel in "Simon Says". She can also be extremely fearful of disappointing Gabriel, panicking after realizing she forgot to get Gabriel a birthday gift for Adrien in "The Bubbler", and quickly deciding to disguise Marinette's scarf as a gift from the former instead. She seems to care greatly about Adrien in general and does her best to provide for the Agreste family.
As shown in Season 2, Nathalie is not only dedicated to but incredibly loyal to Gabriel, as she is both aware of his activities as Hawk Moth and supportive of his efforts to steal Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculouses. As such, she seems to be slightly sociopathic, having almost no concern for the consequences of Hawk Moth's actions, not even when they affect her directly. Like Gabriel, she also has a hatred of Ladybug and Cat Noir (though not nearly to the same level) and wants to see them defeated, fully accepting Gabriel's plan to Akumatize her and recreate most of his Akumatized villains in "Catalyst (Heroes' Day - Part 1)", taking sadistic joy in fooling the heroes into thinking they can win all the while. She is furthermore willing to take any risks if it means protecting him, leading to her deciding to use the damaged Peacock Miraculous to help him escape capture.
Her loyalty and admiration of Gabriel is disrupted however when Gabriel chose to defeat Ladybug and Cat Noir over saving her and Emilie, leading her to denounce Gabriel and presumably lose faith in him. This causes her to turn on him and to encourage Adrien to rebel against him. Later, before she passes out in front of Ladybug, she begs him to cease Monarch's motives for Emilie's sake.

Nathalie's history with Gabriel is long and complex, having apparently known him for years prior to the events of the series, and assisting him in his search for mystical artifacts. In the series proper, Nathalie is initially seen as merely being Gabriel's assistant, diligently following his orders and taking care of Adrien for him; however, it is later revealed that she is not only aware that Gabriel is Hawk Moth, but willfully assists him in his schemes to acquire the Miraculous. She has a deeply seeded admiration for Gabriel and the lengths he is willing to go to for his family, and acknowledges that these feelings have become romantic in nature. It is these feelings that eventually spur her decision to begin using the damaged Peacock Miraculous to more actively assist him as Mayura, being confident that their combined efforts will help them succeed.
While she is dedicated to Gabriel, she is willing to disobey his orders if it serves their goals, not only using the damaged Peacock Miraculous against his wishes, but stealing it back from him in "Ladybug" in order to execute her own plan to acquire the Miraculous. Even after becoming bedridden by the damage caused to her by the Peacock Miraculous, she still tries to assist Gabriel from behind the scenes, conceiving many of their plans and attempting to spy on Ladybug to give them the advantage. However, her relationship with Gabriel sours dramatically in the beginning of Season 5, as she recognizes that his obsession with the Miraculous is beginning to cloud his judgements and make him lose sight of his goals. As a result, she stops being active in assisting him, and becomes more outspoken and abrasive, openly defying his orders and demanding he become a better father to Adrien. She even made it clear to him in "Passion" while having him in an armlock and that he should just accept Emilie's fate and stop trying to bring her back, reminding him of the video recordings she left. After learning about his Cataclysm injury, she decides to foil his plans by stealing the Miraculous for herself, unwilling to let him remake the world to suit his mad vision.
Their relationship took another dive as Gabriel tried to break up Adrien and Marinette's romantic relationship as he wanted his son and Kagami Tsurugi, the daughter of his business partner and accomplice, together as part of their deal. She tried her best to allow Adrien to have control of his life, especially his love life with Marinette as she believed it's up to Adrien, not his father. Despite this, she was angry and heartbroken that Adrien was sent to London. When Adrien escaped in "Representation", she was blamed for it, despite having nothing to do with it and Gabriel took back Emilie's ring but replied that Adrien was bound to be free from him someday. In "Conformation" Nathalie tried to stop him herself but was too weak and taken back to her ring. She listened as Gabriel said that she "betrayed" him for encouraging Adrien and Marinette's relationship and left her to relax with her Alliance ring, intending for her to be a part of his Miraculized army. In "Re-creation", she was revived after Gabriel sacrificed himself.
Adrien Agreste/Cat Noir[]

Nathalie is in charge of watching over Adrien and organizing his schedule. Though she treats him in a formal manner and is not very warm or close to him, she does care greatly about him and looks out for his interest and well-being; requesting Gabriel to allow him to attend public school after seeing how much he wanted to go, wishes him a Merry Christmas on Christmas Day, and showing some sympathy towards him when he is let down by his father, even suggesting to Gabriel that he spend more time with his son occasionally. Over time, her feelings for Adrien become more maternal in nature, as she cares more about his wellbeing and tries to protect him. She even tells Gabriel in an armlock in "Passion", after her falling out with him, that her only reason for remaining with him is to protect Adrien from him. She was willing to be akumatizated by his father after learning of his Cataclysm injury at the thought of Adrien being all alone if she and Gabriel didn't do something fast to prevant that.
She supports Adrien's romantic relationship with Marinette and does her best to protect it from Gabriel, who wants to break them up. Despite this, Gabriel forces Adrien to go to London, but not before telling him he still has the freedom to love Marinette, despite his father's objections and knowing he can't disobey him.
With Cat Noir, however, Nathalie is more antagonistic, being willing to destroy him and take his Miraculous to suit Gabriel's goals. In "Catalyst (Heroes' Day - Part 1)", she openly states that she will go to any length to get rid of him and Ladybug for standing in Gabriel's way, and has no problem with fighting him directly as Mayura in "Miraculer", almost defeating him before Ladybug's intervention.
Marinette Dupain-Cheng/Ladybug[]
Nathalie decides to pass Marinette's gift off as Gabriel's.
Nathalie has seldom encountered Marinette personally, only seeing her in person during the derby hat competition in "Mr. Pigeon" and briefly interacting with her in "Style Queen (Queen's Battle - Part 1)". However, on Adrien's birthday in "The Bubbler", she treats Marinette formally when on a speaker and disregards her by claiming to Adrien that Marinette's gift was from Gabriel.
Like with Cat Noir, Nathalie, though shown to be willing to work with her in "Simon Says" (if only for the protection of the Agreste family), holds great disdain for Ladybug and wants to take her Miraculous; possibly even more so than with her other allies as she is typically the one who disrupts Hawk Moth's plans the most.
By Season Five, she became aware of Adrien's romantic relationship with her and supported it, going as far as to telling Adrien not to let anyone, especially his father, interfere with that and that he had the right to be with her.
In "Conformation", she warns Ladybug of the supervillain's plans and gives her Emilie's phone with all her recordings, urging her to do whatever he takes to stop him and to transform back so that his army wouldn't find her before succumbing to her illness, saddening the superheroine.
Chloé Bourgeois/Queen Bee[]
Like most Parisian citizens, Nathalie is aware that Chloé is Queen Bee. As Mayura, she tries to convince Chloé to join her and Hawk Moth, promising her that if she does, she can be Queen Bee whenever she likes, though Chloé refuses.
Emilie Agreste[]
Like Gabriel, Nathalie knew Emilie before the events of the series, and seems to be quite fond of her, becoming deeply affected by her worsening condition. Because of their friendship, she appears to be similarly indebted to Emilie the same she is Gabriel, perhaps more so; wanting to help bring her back at any cost, and turning against Gabriel when his desire for power begins to overtake his plans to revive Emilie. As revealed in "Passion", she still holds onto a series of video messages Emilie left for her before falling into her coma, despite Gabriel ordering her to delete them.
Powers and Abilities[]
As Catalyst[]
- Power enhancement: Catalyst has the ability to increase the powers of anyone by infusing an object with scarlet-colored energy, transforming them as a result; in Hawk Moth's case, transforming him into Scarlet Moth and giving him the ability to create as many Akumas as he wants. She can also telepathically communicate with anyone she empowers, creating a butterfly-shaped emblem around both of their faces.
As Mayura[]
- Amokization: Reminiscent of Hawk Moth's Akumatization, Mayura has the ability to empower one of the Amoks from her hand fan and send it out to infect an object belonging to someone feeling strong emotions. Once the object has been infected, Mayura can give said emotions a physical form of her choosing, thus creating a Sentimonster to act as her victim's ally until either the object is destroyed or she recalls the Amok with the snap of her fingers. As seen in "Feast", her power to recall and control Amoks also extends out to those created by previous Peacock Miraculous holders, as she was able to revive the Dormant Sentimonster from its petrified state and then force it to obey her by threatening to remove its Amok.
- However, should a Sentimonster obtain the object used to create it, it will obtain freedom and independence from Mayura, as shown in "Ladybug", where the titular Sentimonster is given the keychain containing her Amok by the real Ladybug and decides to turn against Mayura as a result.
- Telepathy: Similar to how Hawk Moth can communicate with his Akumatized victims, Mayura can also communicate with her victims telepathically. But instead of a purple butterfly-shaped light mask, Mayura has her own, which is a blue curved peacock one.
- High combat proficiency: Mayura is shown to be a skilled fighter, given that she was able to hold her own against Cat Noir, Queen Bee, and Ladybug.
As Safari[]
- Homing Attacks: Safari has the ability to never miss any of her targets. Any weapon she fires and any object she throws, ends up following her intended target.
- Genesis: After being transferred the power of the Goat Miraculous by Monarch, Safari was granted the power to make any inanimate object of her choosing. Safari used it to create a box full of high-tech hunting weapons: a crossbow with bolts charged with power from the Fox, Bee, Pig, Tiger and Dragon Miraculous, a wrist-mounted targeting device and a whip that can pull or throw heavy objects.
Sentimonsters[]
- Butterfly Sentimonster: Created out of Hawk Moth's despair at being cornered by the French Miraculous Superhero Team, and later re-created with his ambition/determination to obtain the Miraculous. It can fly and create powerful gusts of wind by flapping its wings.
- Lollipop Boy: Created out of August's frustration at being denied a lollipop by his mother. It is massive in size and has proportionate strength.
- Reflekdoll: Created from Juleka's frustration out of feeling ignored and unnoticed. It fires a massive beam of energy that, like Reflekta's own beams, transforms anyone it hits into an exact replica of her, and is also controlled directly by the former from the inside.
- Ladybug: Created from Mayura's own dedication to helping Hawk Moth acquire Ladybug and Cat Noir's Miraculouses. She has the exact same appearance and powers as Ladybug, but summons more offensive objects with "Senti-Charm".
- Robostus: A Sentimonster replica of the Akumatized form of Max Kanté's robot Markov. Like the original villain, it has the ability to manipulate technology and grant it sentience.
- Optigami: Created out of Mayura's emotions. An Akuma-like origami butterfly with eyes on its wings that can phase into solid objects and send whatever it sees as a direct video feed to Nathalie's tablet, which contains its Amok.

Trivia[]
- The name "Mayura" is the Sanskrit word for "peacock", which is one of the sacred birds in Hindu mythology. It is also a contemporary Hindu name used in many parts of India.
- While the villain is female, "mayura" is specifically the term for males, while "mayuri" is the term for females.
- Mayura was first revealed at the Miraculous panel at New York Comic Con 2016, referred to at the time as "Le Paon" (French for "The Peacock"). Later on, her final name was disclosed during a TF1 press conference advertising Season 3.
- At the time, Mayura was said to appear as Hawk Moth's "boss" in Season 3. This was ultimately proved to be false when Mayura officially debuted.
- Nathalie is the first character in the series shown using the Peacock Miraculous, although she is later established to be the third character to have used it, following Wang Fu and Emilie Agreste.
- Not including Nooroo, Duusu, or Bunnyx (who is from the future), Nathalie was the only person to know Gabriel Agreste's secret identity as Hawk Moth. This later changed after the events of "Gabriel Agreste", where Félix also found out.
- Unlike the other Akumatized villains, Nathalie isn't Akumatized due to negative emotions, but rather a real desire to help Hawk Moth.
- Also, Catalyst is so far the only Akumatized villain not to be defeated by the French Miraculous Superhero Team and the only one they are not aware of.
- Her second Akumatized form, Safari, is the second Akumatized villain in the show to name herself, after Gabriel Agreste/The Collector himself.
- Mayura is so far the second known Miraculous holder to use their power for evil after Hawk Moth.
- Mayura is the first villain in the series to both directly and permanently kill another character by revoking Sentimonster Ladybug's Amok for betraying her to Ladybug and Cat Noir.
- She's the first Miraculous holder whose skin tone changes when she transforms.
