~ Nathan claiming to be "cured" of his pedophilia. |
Nathan Marten is a minor antagonist in Season Three of the TV show Dexter. He is a pedophile who is stalking Astor Bennett, the daughter of Dexter Morgan's girlfriend Rita.
He was portrayed by Jason Kaufman.
Biography[]
While Dexter Morgan, his girlfriend Rita and her daughter Astor are shopping at a local grocery store, Dexter sees Marten talking to Astor and immediately senses that he is a fellow predator, but after a different kind of prey. Dexter approaches Marten and confronts him while acting casual for Astor's benefit. Marten attempts to defuse the situation by claiming to be looking for Cheerios, and Dexter points him towards the cereal isle before guiding Astor away from him. When Marten leaves, Dexter follows him and takes note of his car's license plate.
When Dexter looks up the number plate and discovers it is registered to Nathan Marten, he researches Marten and finds him to be a sex offender convicted of molesting an adolescent girl. He contemplates tracking Marten down and killing him, but cannot because it would violate the "Code of Harry", since Marten has not killed anyone. While at the beach with Astor, however, he sees Marten taking pictures of Astor in her bathing suit from a distance. After this discovery, Dexter follows Marten to a café, where he publicly confronts him about his behavior and past. Marten denies any wrongdoing, claiming to be cured of his pedophilia, but Dexter doesn't believe him.
That night, Dexter breaks into Marten's house, finding him looking at the pictures he took of Astor. Enraged, Dexter chokes him with a garrote, telling him "Nobody hurts my children" before strangling him to death. While dragging Marten out of the house to dispose of his body in the river, he steals a carton of milk from the refrigerator, remembering that Rita had asked him to pick some up.
