The National Law Enforcement Agency (NLEA) are supporting antagonists in the Filipino prime time series FPJ’s Batang Quiapo. They are the fictional counterparts of the Philippine National Police. They are mostly portrayed negatively in the series compared to their real life police counterparts.

Overview[]

The National Law Enforcement Agency (NLEA) was originally formed as a national police organization whose principle and philosophy is to protect humanity and wipe out all criminals in the country. However, as mostly seen in the series, they are portrayed negatively due to their unrealistic and abusive actions by abusing their own power as their way to wipeout criminals all over the country and to promote peace, producing more criminals as a product of their abuse. Some also work involving shady deals as their side job, even the commanders of the force have connections with Drug sellers. Honest and principled members are rarely seen in the series, in contrast to their policies.

Behavior and Actions[]

They are stereotypically portrayed as dirty cops both in movies and real life which they involve shady deals and operations as one of their ways in abusing their power. Most of them also violates protocols followed during operations. They are also portrayed to be greedy, power-hungry, and merciless as it was shown even their alliance they’ll sacrifice them just to obtain higher positions and power. They are also shown to be sociopaths and sadistic whereas they apply unrealistic tortures and punishment to the criminals they arrest as their way to absolutely end criminal activities in the country. However, despite the majority of the officers are shown in a negative light in the series, there are still rarely observed honest and disciplined officers in the series.

Trivia[]

  • Prior to the ABS-CBN shutdown, police officers in most shows are branded as the real life Philippine National Police. However, after the franchise’s shutdown it was rebranded as NLEA due to copyright and legal reasons with the PNP regarding the use of their insignia. They were first seen in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.
  • Their uniforms varies in colors in different shows.
  • The original NLEA was first seen in FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano in 2021 whose uniform were first seen to be wearing long-sleeved black shirts and slacks similarly to real life SWAT-Team. However, in Coco Martin’s next project Batang Quiapo their uniform was redesigned into resolution blue short sleeve shirt and black slacks resembling the uniforms of Philippine Police Officers.
  • The NLEA is a successor of Black Ops in FPJ's Ang Probinsyano who tries to arrest the good innocent people.
  • Alternatively, the National Law Enforcement Agency also appears in a different ABS-CBN (Kapamilya Channel) series, Pamilya Sagrado and Saving Grace.
