Navy is one of the two overarching antagonists (alongside the Corruption) of Season 3 of the Animation vs. Minecraft Shorts, and a minor character in Victim - Animator vs. Animation 11.

He is Purple's abusive father who wanted him to grow up into a fighter, only to leave once his wife disapproved of it. Purple's entire motivation is to make him proud by achieving his expectations following his mother's death, but he never succeeds.

Appearance[]

Navy is a tall, stick figure of the same color as his name with a solid head.

Biography[]

Navy was created alongside Pink and Purple for an animation on Newgrounds. As with all stick figures, this made them manifest in the Outernet where they lived civilian lives. In late 2011, their website was raided by the Chosen One and the Dark Lord, with the three having to run away to safety, presumably finding a way back to the Outernet. Navy noticeably refused to directly save his son and wife, simply telling them to follow him while leaving Pink to help Purple.

At an unknown point in time - either before or after the Newgrounds rampage - Navy started training Purple to raise him into an expert fighter, but he always hit him too hard, causing Pink to intervene. After several years of the same thing happening, during which Purple grew up to be a teenager, he had enough and left. Ever since then, Purple had to take care of Pink until she passed away from unknown reasons. Following this, he tried to find his father to reunite with the only family he has left and make him proud by proving himself to be the tough fighter he wanted him to be, but couldn't do it.

From then on, Purple would take over a computer and rule over a Minecraft village before meeting the Stick Gang. Every time they met, he would antagonize or even try to kill them, either to maintain his rule over the village, get the Dragon Egg, or simply to get revenge. All of those were because he wanted to live up to Navy's expectations as someone tough. Eventually, Purple met King Orange and joined him in his plans of attempted omnicide on all of Minecraft, showing how far he's gone in his quest to prove himself to his father.

Navy makes his debut in "Note Block Universe". He shows up during Purple's story, explaining to Green his motivations for double-crossing them over and over. He returns as a cameo character in "The King", flashing between himself and King Orange, showing how the king effectively became Purple's surrogate father and the parental figure he never truly had in his life thanks to Navy's abuse of him, finally letting go of getting the respect of Navy. He makes another cameo in Animator vs. Animation 11, where he's seen running for safety during the Disintegration.

It's unknown what happened to Navy after he left his family, although it's heavily implied he is still alive.

Trivia[]

  • Before the release of "Note Block Universe", Alan Becker created a side channel called AlanBeckerTutorials, where there was a tutorial video on stick figure animation with a stick figure that looked incredibly similar to Navy (although wasn't a full copy due to the shade of blue being different), to the point the fandom was even calling them "Dark Blue" before the release of Season 3. It's most likely just a coincidence as said tutorial video was made in 2016, years before Purple's debut, and thus it's unlikely the plot was thought of that far.
  • Similar to how King Orange has been called "Mango Tango" by fans to separate him from the Second Coming, who had "Orange" as a popular nickname, Purple's father has been given several nicknames to separate him from the heroic Blue. Among several minor ones, the popular ones include Dark Blue, Navy, Cobalt and Regular Blue; the first three are colors, while the latter most is a reference to the fact Navy has the "basic" design used by all stick figures that weren't drawn by the Animator.
    • While his name was never stated in-series or in an AVG video, members of Alan Becker's private Discord server stated he has been referred to as Dark Blue, Royal Blue, and Navy. Thus, one can assume that all three are canon names. He was then finally given a name in the scrapped storyboard for an anime-style opening for AvM Shorts Season 3, that being Navy.
  • It was speculated by fans that Navy is actually King Orange, having changed his color under unknown circumstances. This is because the two are heavily associated in "Note Block Universe", both are taller than Purple (and by extension the entire cast; in fact, they're the same height), and it would explain why Purple is so loyal to King "Orange"; assuming he knows he's his father.
    • Ultimately, the Season 3 finale manages to connect the two even more (at one point outright showing King Orange changing into Navy) while also making it clear they aren't the same person. King Orange had his son die in front of him without being shown to have a spouse while Navy abandoned Purple and left him and his wife alone, not to mention that they all have different colors. King Orange and Navy glitching into each other most likely represents how the former essentially became Purple's surrogate father after he was abandoned by the latter, the same way Purple glitching into King Orange's son represented him becoming the king's surrogate son.
  • The fact that Pink flinched when Navy raised his hand implies he might have been abusive towards her too, although this is unknown.
  • With their cameos in AvA 11, it's possible Navy was just trying to protect Purple with his training. However, it's worth noting that even then he refused to help Purple and told him to get up by himself, with Pink having to help Purple up, making it possible he was already abusive beforehand.
  • In AvA 11, we briefly see a blue stick figure sign up to work for Rocket Corp. It's possible this was in fact Navy, but it wasn't directly stated.
