~ General Deathshead. |
Nazi Germany, or the Nazi Party, are the main antagonists in the Wolfenstein series of games. It is based on the historical Third Reich and its activities but presented in an alternative history lens.
History[]
Origins[]
As in the real-life counterpart, the Nazi Party was a small political movement known as the DPA founded in 1919 before it rose to prominence. It was only after Adolf Hitler joined that it changed its name to the NSDAP and became a much more influential political party in post-war Germany thanks to Hitler's oratorical skills. Through the Great Depression and the critical economic situation, the party gained even more supporters and finally took power in 1933, making Adolf Hitler Chancellor and Fuhrer a year later. In 1939, the Nazis invaded Poland, starting World War II.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein[]
In March 1943, the Nazis are on the verge of defeat through numerous failures in Africa and the defeat of the Battle of Stalingrad, which significantly weakened their strategic and military potential as well as the chances of winning the war. To prevent this, they form SS Paranormal Division, whose main goal is to resurrect the Duke of Saxony, Henry the Fowler, a Saxon prince who, a thousand years earlier, became immortal through contact with dark powers and, together with his horde, launched a campaign of terror in Central Europe, lasting to the year when the mysterious magician, Simon the Wanderer, sent him to the abyss. The Nazis want to revive him and use his unimaginable power to achieve victory. Their plans, however, are thwarted by William Blazkowicz, who eliminates the unit key personnel, including Helga von Bulow, and acquires secret documents from General Deathshead, a gifted inventor and one of the most dangerous men in the Reich. Thanks to these documents, Blazkowicz reaches the place of resurrection of Henry and starts annihilating of all the Nazis present there, including the resurrected former tyrant.
Wolfenstein[]
After their defeat in the first game, the Nazis discover a new source of power in the form of the Veil, a mysterious dimension that can be manipulated with crystals found in the contested city of Isenstadt. The excavation of diamonds needed to activate the portal is supervised by General Viktor Zetta, who is killed by William Blazkowicz along with the resistance movement accompanying him. After his death, this operation is taken over by Deathshead, who seeks revenge against the agent for destroying his work and attempts to use a superweapon powered by Black Sun energy to destroy the city. Their plan is sabotaged by the destruction of the portal, and they ultimately fail to achieve their goals. Despite this, Deathshead survives and manages to escape.
The Old Blood[]
In 1945, the Nazis try to win by re-examining paranormal forces. This time, the Paranormal Division is led by Helga von Schabbs who is trying to awaken King Otto I's monster hidden in the catacombs beneath the city of Wulfburg near Wolfenstein Castle. Despite initial success in awakening the monster, the beast is beyond the control of the Nazis. Blazkowicz kills the golem and thwarts their plan, and gain information about Deathshead's headquarters
The New Order[]
In 1940, Deathshead captures the secret archives of the ancient Jewish organization Da'at Yichud, which enabled him to develop highly advanced war machines for the Germans, allowing them to gain military strength. Thanks to these achievements, the Nazis win the war and conquer 3/4 of the world including the United States by the early 1960s, even making successful attempts at space colonization. Although Hitler is officially the head of state, General Strasse decided to use his influence and removed him from power at the same time ruling the new world order created by him. At the same time, the formation of Uber Commandants was formed, which ensured order along with other SS units.
