~ Necro Monster |
The "Necro Monster" is the main antagonist of the 2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles episode "The Darkness Within". It is a malevolent alien entity that arrived on Earth and served as a corrupting influence on many people.
It was voiced by Ben Townsend.
History[]
A thousand years ago, the Necro Monster arrived on Earth on a meteorite. It landed in North America and attempted to corrupt the Natives, but they were too strong of character to listen to it. They created a spear from the meteorite. Before they could destroy it, the creature called out to men from across the sea who desired the gold of that land, including C.F. Volpehart. The men invaded the Natives' land and wiped them out before colonizing the area.
Volpehart gained incredible wealth and his empire expanded because of the creature, who gave him immortality. Eventually he regretted his actions and tried to destroy the creature, but was too weak to do it because of how long he was under its influence. So, he started warning all of the people it called to, but he was unable to save them. The creature then trapped thousands of its victims in pods and drained them as it forced them to experience their worst fears.
The creature later captured Angel's brother, Ryan, so she went to the Turtles for help. They went to the building the monster was located in and met with Volpehart, who told them about the creature and its influence.
The Turtles were given the spear to fight the creature, but it attacked them trapped trapped them in pods, making them experience their fears. Leonardo was able to fight the creature's influence and rescue the others. The monster itself then confronted him and tried to corrupt him directly, but Leonardo resisted it and threw the spear at the creature, seemingly destroying it. But as the turtles left the tower, another citizen answered a phone and the creature's voice influenced him, implying it survived.
Personality[]
The Necro Monster is shown to be a cunning and manipulative entity that uses the deepest desires of its victim/victims to make them its eternal slaves/food to sustain its immortal life. It promises them riches, power, strength, and the world to boot in exchange for their service to it, granting them a horrific immortal fate if they agree to it. It is clearly a sadist, as it exploits the victims' worst nightmares, forcing them to experience them over and over again until they finally die from it. Although the creature grants them absolutely everything it promises and gives them immortality, it is purely out of pragmatism so that they can do what it desires, and as seen by Volpehart, the victims will suffer from such an existence even with all the joys of life. This all makes it one of the darkest villains in the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, who, in the end, was not completely defeated judging by the ending.
Trivia[]
- It's one of the few villains in the entire series to presumably accomplish their goals (albeit off-screen).
