The Necromancers are major antagonists of the animated web series, Songs of War.
They are a secretive faction ruled by the Necrolord. They are a cult of sorcerers who harness the power of Wither skulls to rally the Undead and use them as soldiers to wage war on Felden. They go on frequent missions to attack settlements and assassinate unwanted people. After laying waste on the town of Riverstead, the Felden-Necromancer War started.

The Great War[]
Prior to the events of the show was the Great War, the Nether invaded the Overworld and tried to conquer the kingdoms of Ardonia. They did this by commanding legions of undead soldiers to overwhelm and massacre entire armies. It's not explained how the Netherans got the powers of the Undead, but it could be due to experiments with Soul Sand.
After the Great War, the Netherans left behind the magic they used to resurrect the Undead, which caused them to ravage the continent. Around this time, the Voltaris Clan fled into Mount Velgrin to avoid extermination, but one of them stayed behind, his name was Xan Voltaris. Xan would be fascinated with the concept of Necromancy and henceforth would try to harness it. For the next two hundred years, he would gather a cult following of various people from across the kingdom of Felden.
