Nedward "Ned" and Zedaro "Zed" are the secondary antagonists of the movie, Planes. They are Ripslinger's sidekicks, who help him try to disqualify Dusty from the Wings Around the Globe competition.

They are both voiced by Gabriel Iglesias.

Biography

Ned and Zed are the sidekicks of Ripslinger. They are the ones that are being advised by Ripslinger to prevent Dusty from winning. Since they can't outrace a competition, they make their boss win the race by cheating. There is even one time that they watched the video of Dusty racing, but their boss scolded them. In the final race, when they chased Dusty, Dusty avoids them which makes them both stuck between canyon walls.

Appearance

Ned is the dominant green one, while Zed is the dominant white one. Their colors are reverse to each other. Also, Ned's racing number is 0, while Zed's is 00. They share a lot of similarities, such as the black color around the eyes and the body model. It is possible that they are the same vehicle model.

Personality

They are both cheaters and they are obedient to their boss. Even though they support Ripslinger, they sometimes watch the video of Dusty racing, but their boss scolded them.

Trivia

• The first letters of their names N and Z make up the initials of the name of their home country of New Zealand.
• During the scene where the racers arrive at India, Ned and Zed were making story references to Rocky, David and Goliath from the Bible, and Old Yeller.
• Ned and Zed's designs are based on the Extra EA-300 aerobatic planes, but with the cockpit windows in a different shape.
• Both are brothers from New Zealand, while the movie shows the US flags on their names.
• Their wingspans are 20.3 feet (6.2 meters).
• Their flying styles are aggressive and dangerous.
• They are nicknamed the "Twin Turbos".
• Both their Sky Slycer Mark Five propellers are single two-bladed props.
• Ned's Micro Drifters release incorrectly labels him as Zed.
• Ned and Zed are similar to Pain and Panic from Hercules. Ned and Zed & Pain and Panic were frequently abused by Ripslinger and Hades while Ripslinger and Hades acted nice to Ishani and Megara.
• Ned and Zed act as saboteurs for Ripslinger, ensuring his victory in every race by eliminating the competition. As a result, they don't need to win races, but presumably come in top 3 positions such as 2nd or 3rd.

  • Number 00 also has Arvy Motorhome, Jimmy Cables, and Flip Dover.
  • As stated, they could've been the ones that sabotaged Bulldog's propeller so the oil can force him to go blind and crash as a result, though he is saved by Dusty afterwards.
  • Ned and Zed are so similar to Grem and Acer the two major antagonists from Pixar's full-lenght animated film Cars 2. And they both are similar to Hit & Run from Cars 3, because there six are most dimwitted villains from the Cars and Planes franchise.
