Neil Dietrich is a antagonist of the Chicago Med episode "I Will Come To Save You". He is a mentally unstable man who came to believe he was trapped in a video game simulation.

Biography[]
Past[]
In the past, he took a variety of pills and suffered an overdose, that led to him suffering a delusion that he was trapped in a video game simulation. As a result, he came to believe nothing mattered and tried to more drugs to escape to reality. This action led to his body suffering greatly, leading to a ruptured appendix.
"A Red Pill, a Blue Pill"[]
Neil's appendicitis soon gave him trouble and got him sent to the hospital. He refused treatment and revealed to Dr. Dean Archer and Dr. Choi, that he believed he was in a video game and the pain will awake him in time. Both doctors realized that he was clearly suffering from some form of mental incapacity and reached out to Dr. Daniel Charles who performed a psych evaluation on Neil who revealed the drugs he took and attempted to get him to reconsider but he got nowhere. When Neil passed out from pain, Archer decided to go through with the operation, regardless of his consent. After Charles visited him again, he noticed Neil was now sulking and the latter explained that he was operated on, blaming the hospital for trapping him.
"I Will Come To Save You"[]
Neil stalks Dr. Dean Archer and Dr. Choi, before personally confronting them in the hospital parking lot. He drew a gun and threatened the doctors for trapping him in what he believed to be a game, as both doctors tried to protect the other by claiming responsibility for the operation. However, Neil declared he would shoot both of them, as he was the only one who was real and their protests were programmed. As he was ranting, he was distracted by the honking of the car of Sharon Goodwin who had noticed the scene earlier and not wanting any more harm had to intervene. Choi and Archer tried to disarm him but in the process the gun went off and Choi was shot in the gut while Neil hit his head and was unconscious.
Neil is treated for his injuries and is ultimately taken by security to get treated for a concussion. Dr. Charles recognized him and told Goodwin of his delusion and got dismayed it progressed to the point that he attacked someone. He later recovered and was hauled off in a chair by the police, all while still holding to his claim that what they were doing isn't real and he would awake soon.
He was then institutionalized.
