There are a lot of vulnerable properties in this neighbourhood, but you picked mine to rob. Why is that? I wonder. Mendoza:Hey, seemed like a challenge. Roark: Well..let's up the challenge. I just pushed a button, which means about a dozen coked-up psychopaths with automatic weapons are headed your way. You scared yet? |

Neil Roark is a major antagonist in the 2015 video game Battlefield Hardline. Once a rising star in anti-piracy technology, Neil Roark used his fortune to further his personal cause of opposing what he perceived as the denial of American opportunity. Now living in an opulent Hollywood estate, he creates lengthy webcasts promoting the benefits of privatization.
He is voiced by Mark Rolston, who also played Bogs Diamond in The Shawshank Redemption, J. Scar in Eraser, Lex Luthor in Young Justice, Deathstroke in the Batman: Arkham series, and Norman Osborn in Insomniac's Spider-Man video game series.
Biography[]
Background[]
Once a successful developer of anti-piracy software, Neil Roark used his fortune to fuel a large criminal empire based in Los Angeles. With his wealth and connections, Roark helped orchestrate a series of high-profile bank heists across both L.A. and Miami, working closely with a partner known only as Big Eddie. He got involved with Lilly Kang and started an affair with her, the wife of rival crime boss Henry Kang, and together they plotted Henry’s murder by planting explosives in his car. Their plan didn’t go as expected, but Nicholas Mendoza ended up killing Henry anyway.
Roark was also acquainted with Julian Dawes who had "cleaned up" Miami with his private police force Preferred Outcomes by making the police look the other way for criminals who paid him. Looking to expand his criminal empire, Dawes contacted Roark, Henry Kang, and other crime lords to negotiate investment opportunities for his company in order for them to receive the same benefits.
Battlefield Hardline[]
Dawes set up a meeting between Carl Stoddard and other crime lords at Roark's mansion outside of Los Angeles. While the meeting was initially supposed to take place around midnight, the death of Henry Kang at the hands of Nick Mendoza caused them to move the meeting forward. Despite this, Stoddard left out the details of Kang's death to the other crime lords who quickly believed that he had killed Kang for not agreeing with Dawes' terms, leading them to draw their weapons. Roark and Stoddard managed to defuse the situation, however. Unbeknownst to the crime lords, Nick Mendoza and Khai Min Dao had infiltrated the mansion and were hiding in the closet in the room.
Once the meeting had concluded and they left the room, Mendoza took out most of the crime lords present at the mansion. He then proceeded to plant Khai's phone in the money briefcase in Roark's glasshouse and trace it to where Dawes kept his money in a vault. Once Nick reached the briefcase, he was met by Roark via television moniter. Roark threatens Nick and starts to rant, before Khai appears behind Roark and puts a gun to his head. With Roark's men inbound, Khai proceeded to knock Roark out and meet up with Nick as the two made their escape. The resulting firefight caused three million dollars in damages to Roark's compound. Due to Nick's actions against Roark being because of his vengeance towards Dawes, Roark uninvited Dawes to his wedding and told him to resolve his conflict against Mendoza if he wished for continued support.
