Biography[]
Early life[]
Little is known about Neith’s life, except she married Jabir, lived with him and their daughter Bishara in Cairo, and the family was near Neith’s sick mother so they could care for her. Jabir was an artistic photographer and photojournalist recruited to cover the Egyptian chapter of the Arab Spring protests, specifically the efforts of a group led by American ally Hank Willis. The law enforcement response was brutal to the group like most of the protesters, and Jabir was hardest hit by CZ gas that destroyed his health. Disabled, Jabir became depressed and withdrawn from his family.
In fall 2016, Jabir committed suicide with a CZ gas canister he purchased and emptied in his locked bedroom. Neith came home and found Jabir dead, permanently destroyed by grief. When Jabir’s suicide note and a group photo of Hank and his group provided the context she needed to understand the truth, she furiously swore revenge on Hank and his allies, leaving Bishara with Neith’s mother while Neith formed a plan to hunt and kill them all in retribution. As the photo was taken near a dig site the group convened at for planing, she used it as a base of operations while she hid Jabir’s note in her kitchen cupboard, gathered the remaining canisters he bought, and stalked Hank’s activities. She planned to strike at a meeting place near the dig site, where Hank and Egyptian-American ally Malik Said had gone at night to meet other protesters.
"Denial"[]
Wearing a gas mask to conceal her identity and protest herself from the caustic chemicals, Neith knocked out and snatched Hank when he went outside, then gassed Malik in the locked car until he died. Hank was trapped in a sarcophagus until he woke up, when Neith showed herself with a lantern while still in disguise. Throughout his captivity, Hank was tortured by Neith for the names of the two Egyptian citizens in his group, Safar Arabi and Ahmed Anzety. While lambasting Hank by saying the group’s deaths were their own fault, Neith extracted Safar’s name from Hank when she had a cobra bite him and used the antidote as an ultimatum, then Ahmed’s by shooting Hank in his limbs with a nail gun. In the meantime, the police believe Jabir’s death to be a connected murder, so Neith is questioned. She expressed her grief and anger, but she plays along with their confusion. She tells of Jabir’s job, but avoid talking about the group and her knowledge of them, as well as saying Jabir was sick without revealing what from. She them demanded the agents make the killers pay for Jabir’s murder.
In the meantime, Neith followed and gassed Safar in an elevator, and knowing the motive involves the group when they find a copy of Jabir’s photo, knowing he took the picture, they go to question Neith again. She already fled to kill Ahmed, but the police find the suicide note and gas canisters, realizing she’s the killer. Neith reaches the synagogue where Ahmed is praying and locks him in a room with an active canister. The agents arrive just as she’s leaving, Agent Matthew Simmons and a policeman risking their safety to get Ahmed out, while agent Mae Jarvis chases her to a balcony at the top of the mosque. Neith removes her mask and says they can’t talk her down from jumping, professing her spite at the men Jamir worked with for getting him killed and the toll it took on him. She doesn’t care to believe Arab Spring would offer anything in his memory, and when Jarvis tells her to remember Bishara, Neith emotionally says she’s already in her mind, before she plummets to the street and dies from the impact. Knowing Hank is still missing, the team track him to the dig site, where they narrowly rescued him after Neith buried him alive in a last attempt for her revenge.
