~ Nemo as he films Ashe and Danny's murder

Nemo is an antagonist in The Crow: City of Angels. He is a member of a gang of criminals who murder Ashe and Danny Corven on the orders of gangster Judah Earl.

He was portrayed by Thomas Jane, who also portrayed Wilfred James in 1922 and the title character in the 2004 film The Punisher.

Overview[]

Nemo is a member of a gang of criminals who work for crime lord Judah Earl. He and Judah's other lieutenants, Curve, Spider Monkey, and Kali, sell a designer drug called Trinity and murder people who interfere with Earl's business. Nemo derives sexual pleasure from recording the murders, and frequents peep shows, where he pays to masturbate while exotic dancers perform.

In the film[]

Judah sends Nemo and the others to kill a rival drug dealer behind mechanic Ashe Corven's garage. As they beat the man to death, Nemo accidentally knocks over a garbage can, and Ashe's son Danny runs outside to find out what made the noise. The gang takes Ashe and Danny prisoner and, at Judah's command, shoots them both dead; Nemo films their murders, laughing cruelly.

Later on, Nemo goes to a peep show to watch a stripper named Holly Daze. As Nemo pleasures himself, Ashe suddenly appears, having returned from the dead with the help of a mystical crow and sworn revenge on his and Danny's murderers. He jumps through the booth's glass surface and tackles a terrified Nemo, who recognizes him immediately.

Nemo tries to run away when Ashe is briefly distracted by a noise, but Ashe stops him by shooting him in the leg. Nemo begs for his life, but Ashe is unmoved, saying that he must die for what he did to Danny. Nemo replies that he and the others had to kill the boy because Judah would have killed them if they did not follow his orders; out of his mind with fear, Nemo screams, "We didn't have a choice!" Ashe replies, "We always have a choice," and kills Nemo by gouging his eyes out with his thumbs. He then places two of the peep show's tokens into Nemo's empty eye sockets and a paper crow in his mouth as a warning to Curve, Kali, and Judah that he is coming for them next.

Trivia[]

  • The novelization of the film gives Nemo a backstory; as a teenager, he had sworn to remain a virgin after watching his older brother die of AIDS, and as an adult he frequents peep shows and makes snuff films in order to relieve his sexual urges.
