Neptulon the Tidehunter is a major antagonist turned ally within Warcraft. The most powerful of Azeroth's Elemental Lords, Neptulon is the Elemental Lord of Water and the archenemy of Ragnaros. He, like the rest of his kin, were enslaved by the wicked Old Gods and did their bidding for eons, but unlike Ragnaros and Al'Akir, Neptulon never considered himself ally to the eldritch horrors. When Deathwing unleashed the Cataclysm, Neptulon was finally able to break free from his dark masters. He along with Therazane then joined the forces of good and assisted the heroes from that point onward, with Neptulon himself directly taking part in the later campaigns against Azshara and N'Zoth.
Biography[]
Neptulon, Ragnaros, Therazane, and Al'Akir were the original primordial rulers of Azeroth, and were the planet's very first elemental manifestations, making them the gods of their respective elements. As the Elemental Lord of Water, Neptulon ruled over the watery depths of the world, and while he waged an endless chaotic war against his kin, his calamitous rivalry and dislike of Ragnaros by far sparked the most destructive battles between the four. For thousands of years they ruled the world, until the arrival of the parasitic horrors, The Old Gods. While the Elemental Lords did their best to fight off these abominations from the dark beyond, they would all be defeated and enslaved, forced to their evil bidding for tens of thousands of years, including being their top lieutenants in the Old Gods war against the arriving Titans.
Personality[]
Despite his pension for destruction and occasional sadistic moods, Neptulon's demeanor is as flowing and fluid as the waters he reigns over. He is seen as a benevolent and protective god to his followers, giving his blessings and ruling without tyranny or malice. However, owing to his nature, he can also be easily offended by something as trivial as a ship sailing and simply being unfortunate enough to be in the wrong place at the wrong time, bringing ruin to it and its crew. He can be very cruel when angered, and can, and does, bring death and destruction on a whim, but he is nowhere near as volatile and changeable as his brother Al'Akir, and does not actively engage in acts of malevolent mass destruction as him and Ragnaros.
Neptulon bitterly served the Old Gods, and at the very first opportunity to break free from their control he did so. As the wisest of the four, Neptulon can also see the greater scope of things, and understands that while can unleash ruin, Azeroth is ultimately his home, and he will defend it against those who seek to bring the world harm. Unlike the more evil two Elemental Lords, Neptulon rules over his followers as a leader should, and does not slaughter them in droves for their failures, though one should never try and deliberately tempt or anger him.
