~ Nettie to Wilma before both of their deaths.
Nettie Cobb is a supporting antagonist from the Stephen King novel Needful Things as well as its live-action adaption. She is the well-known "crazy lady" in Castle Rock and good friend of supporting protagonist Polly Chalmers. Like with many other Castle Rock residents, she was manipulated by Leland Gaunt into committing illegal acts, which would ultimately result in her death.
In the live-action film, she was portrayed by Amanda Plummer.
Nettie presents herself as a very fragile and soft-spoken woman. Her best known relationship is with her dog Raider, whom she had created a strong bond with over the short months that she had owned him. Due to her relationship with Wilma Jerzyck, Nettie became progressively more paranoid for both herself and her dog. She would display a more aggressive/homicidal side of herself when confronting Wilma with a knife after finding her dog dead.
Another key personality trait of Nettie's is that she's off-putting, often saying things spontaneously that would surprise those around her (such as Polly). This would cause people around her to label her as a "crazy lady". Another reason for her name and for others being off-put by her was the rumor that she killed her late husband, but this was never proven.
Biography[]
In the film, Nettie is first seen serving Sheriff Pangborn at the diner she worked at. She is again seen delivering a cake to Leland on behalf of Polly at his "Needful Things" store with her dog. In the film, this would be her first encounter with Wilma. In the shop, she would discover her "Needful Thing", that being carnival glass in the novel and a Hummel in the film.
After Wilma Jerzyck began tormenting her for things she believed to have been caused by Nettie (but were actually caused by Brian Rusk), Wilma began making Nettie paranoid through threats of harming her dog Raider. At the same time that these threats were occurring, Nettie would return to her work with Polly, whom she had a good relationship with. In the novel, she would also repeatedly return to Gaunt's shop around this same time. After receiving her Needful Thing, Nettie would repeatedly touch it and display a happy demeanor after doing so.
Eventually, Nettie would have to pay for her Needful Thing, and she would do this by covering Mayor Dan Keeton's home in pink-slips that would cause him to become paranoid of the police. Upon returning home, she would call to her dog and be met with silence. After searching the house for him, she would eventually find him tied up and skinned alive (which had been done by Hugh Preist in order to pay for his Needful Thing).
Assuming that this was the work of Wilma, she would make her way to the Jerzyck residence with a knife with intentions of killing her. At this same time, Wilma was confronted with a vandalized and was also plotting a violent revenge, when suddenly she ran into Nettie. The two then became tangled in a violent confrontation, both of the women stabbing each other repeatedly. This would end with both of them killing each other, leaving their corpses on top of one another in a bloody mess.

There are many differences between Wilma's confrontations with Nettie both in the book and in the novel. In the novel, Nettie was stalked outside of her home by someone in her car, while in the film Wilma would threaten her at her work over the phone and even show up in person. In the film, Nettie would become verbally defensive with Wilma, even going so far as to hold a knife to her that she was using to cut apples.
In both the live-action film and in the novel, Nettie has some form of connection to Polly.
In the novel, it was noted that Raider was a gift given to Nettie by Polly the Spring prior to the events that took place in the story.
In both adaptations, it is rumored that Nettie killed her husband after enduring years of his abuse. This was never proven, but Leland Gaunt's knowledge of the incident might have implied it.
