Nettle is a minor antagonist in Erin Hunter's Warriors book series, serving as a major antagonist in A Vision of Shadows arc and a minor antagonist in super edition Onestar's Confession.
He is one of Darktail's most trusted cats and a high-ranking member of the Kin, as well as the group's unofficial healer. He assisted Darktail in taking over ShadowClan, which caused many casualties and after the Kin's defeat, he fled with the remains of the group. However, he returned alongside Raven and conspired with Sleekwhisker to help him retrieve his kits back, which ultimately led to his death.
Biography[]
A Vision of Shadows[]
Nettle first appears during Violetkit's visit in the rogues' camp, having arrived with a freshly caught prey, alongside Silt. They share the food with a young she-cat and eventually fall asleep. A couple of moons later, he is taking care of the sick cats and upon being asked by Rain how the patients are feeling, Nettle replies much worse, with Beenose still coughing and Silt's fever rising. In her head, Violetkit briefly compares him to being the closest thing the rogues have to a medicine cat, but brown tabby only knows few herbs.
On the same night after Rain has been half-blinded by Darktail during their argument, Nettle is mentioned by Violetpaw to having been racing in and out of the camp with herbs, in attempt to treat the gray tom's injury. After successfully having done so, the brown rogue falls asleep from tiredness not long after.
Days later, Nettle participates in the battle for RiverClan's territory, during which he fights alongside Roach. Some time after the battle, he is called by Darktail to take Needletail to prisoners' den for sharing herbs with medicine cats Alderheart and Mothwing. Later on, he's mentioned to be among the rogues that attack ThunderClan's patrol and yowls that the Kin will be coming for ThunderClan next. Upon returning to the Kin's camp from hunting, Nettle drops his catch onto a prey pile and proceeds to bathe in the sunlight with Raven and Roach briefly, before Darktail calls them over for a feast.
After Darktail finds out about Violetpaw's scheme, Nettle is seen guarding Needletail and RiverClan prisoners, and straightens up upon seeing his leader approaching, Not long after, during the battle in RiverClan camp Nettle is spotted alongside Sleekwhisker and Roach, fighting furiously despite the Kin visibly losing. Upon hearing Darktail call for retreat, he flees after his leader. He then participates in the attack on WindClan and flees after being scratched in the face by Hawkwing. During the Clans' final battle against the Kin in ShadowClan's camp, Nettle wrenches away from his fight with Tigerheart and attempts to flee up the slope, only to be ambushed by Hawkwing, who digs his claws in the brown tabby's shoulders. Neverthless, following Darktail's death at the paws of Onestar, the remains of the Kin flee the lake territories.
Many days later, Nettle is revealed to having returned to the lake territories alongside Raven and conspired with Sleekwhisker and two kittypets Jacques and Susan to help him steal his kits from Yarrowleaf, whom the former ShadowClan she-cat drugged with poppy seeds. He and his companions are waiting with the kits nearby a pool in the forest along with Tawnypelt as their hostage, as Jacques brings in the search patrol. While Nettle taunts Yarrowleaf that she will never see her kits again, Sleekwhisker condemns Rowanclaw for everything bad that happened to ShadowClan during Darktail's reign and hisses that they will make him pay by killing Tawnypelt in front of him, knowing how important she is to him. The tortoiseshell she-cat snarks that she'd like to see them try, but Sleekwhisker replies that they will and if anyone will attempt to stop her, she will kill the kits. Nettle adds that they could let Tawnypelt go if Rowanclaw sacrificed himself for her and upon seeing him seemingly agree with defeat, he and Sleekwhisker watch in contempt and anticipation. However, this turns out to be a trick as Rowanclaw attacks Nettle and Sleekwhisker, allowing Tawnypelt and Yarrowleaf to escape with the kits. In the ensuing fight the kittypets flee, while Violetshine and Macgyver fight off Sleekwhisker and Raven, forcing them to retreat as well in defeat. After driving the rogue she-cats away, the Clan cats return to the hollow where they find Nettle lying dead in a pool of blood and Rowanclaw with a fatal throat injury, which the former leader succumbs to moments later.
Onestar's Confession[]
During Onestar's confrontation with Darktail, Nettle is seen among the other key members of the Kin.
Appearance[]
Nettle is a brown tabby tomcat with a long, spiky fur.
Personality[]
Nettle is loyal to Darktail and the Kin, as he cares for his fellow group members, doing his best to heal them despite his limited knowledge of herbs. However, he is also very cruel, sadistic and egotistic as he was mentioned to be tussling with Roach over a fish, upon finding it very tasty. He also treats his kits as nothing but personal belongings and wasn't moved by the idea of hurting them.
