The New Galactic Federation are the secondary antagonists of the Adult Swim animated series Rick and Morty.
It is an interplanetary government built to serve as a successor to the Galactic Federation after it was toppled by Rick Sanchez. While it is lead by a group of unseen young Gromflomites, the federation's presence is primarily shown through its former agent Tammy Guetermann, who wages war against Space Beth and the Defiance.
History[]
The New Galactic Federation was founded after the destruction of the original Galactic Federation in "The Rickshank Redemption", when Rick Sanchez reduced it to utter chaos by making its currency worthless. Tammy Guetermann, an agent of the previous Federation, assisted its remnants in rebuilding itself into the New Galactic Federation. According to her, its current leaders are "bugs" (likely Gromflomites) and half her age (which would imply that they're approximately 8 years old).
The Federation soon embarked on a quest to invade and conquer other planets with the intent of re-establishing their dominance over the galaxy. Their reign of terror would put them at odds with Space Beth, a version of Rick's daughter Beth, who formed the Defiance to fight against them, with the two factions clashing frequently in battle.
Eventually, when Space Beth returned to Earth to investigate a suicide device implanted inside her by Rick, the Federation followed her there with the intent of capturing her, as well as destroying the planet with their recently-acquired "NX-5 Planet Remover" laser. However, the entire Sanchez-Smith family would fight back and easily trounce the Federation, killing Tammy, defeating Phoenixperson and later restoring him as Birdperson, and shutting down the NX-5, likely forcing the faction to retreat.
The Federation was later revealed to have been holding Birdperson and Tammy's secret daughter prisoner.
Trivia[]
- In line with "Star Mort Rickturn of the Jerri" parodying a lot of Star Wars tropes, the New Galactic Federation is clearly meant to be based on the First Order from the sequel trilogy, like how the original Galactic Federation was based on the Galactic Empire.
