“ | This prison in-between... it will shatter. But I need power. I am pain. I am terror. I am Nezarec! | „ |
~ Nezarec |
Nezarec is a major antagonist in the Destiny expansion, Lightfall, being a Disciples of the Witness, and a raid boss in the raid Root of Nightmares. One of his devastating acts was leading an assault that caused the event known as the Collapse. His main threat in Lightfall was his attempt to infiltrate the CloudArc on Neomuna, along with linking up with the Witness. He seems to thrive from the pain and suffering of others, as if such things satiate a hunger or a twisted pleasure.
It was revealed in Lightfall that he created the Nightmares as a sort of weapon for psychological warfare against Nezarec's enemies. As such, due to the Nightmares being the central part of Shadowkeep, and the Lunar Pyramid, Nezarec's personal ship, being the driving force of the DLC.
Personality[]
Nezarec is very sadistic, and is the basis of his personality and character. He sees suffering of others as his highest good, and will pursue anything, including extremely deranged and depraved acts to satiate his addiction. He is also very arrogant like Rhulk, insulting the Guardians when they were storming his Pyramid ship. He thinks of himself in high regard, and is completely devoid of sympathy or compassion, even calling Zo'aurc useless, and telling the Guardians to dispose of him.
Biography[]
Nezarec has existed for a significantly long time; long before humanity experienced the Golden Age. Psions, a race that belongs to the Cabal, were heavily influenced by Nezarec when he used his psychic power to corrupt their traditions and culture, converting it into an esoteric cult of psychics who wield mental powers. He is skilled enough to corrupt the worldview, traditions and imaginations of various species.
At some point, Nezarec was approached by the Witness to become a Disciple of him. Given how the Witness saw the brutal collapse of several massive civilizations, Nezarec could feast on the pain and suffering. Rhulk gave Nezarec a Glaive as an honorary token of being a Disciple. His original pyramid was on the moon, and was there before the Golden Age of humanity. Given his ability to make his way into many cultures, including pre golden age humanity, as seen in the lore tab of Nezarec's sin, he not only has psychic powers but is very intelligent and able to use cultural memes to his advantage.
Nezarec was revived after The Traveler attacked the Witness's personal pyramid ship. The 'attack' however was incapable of killing and in fact granted life to any in contact with the power. This included Nezarec. After Emporer Calous attacked Neomuna and was defeated, he tried to infiltrate the minds of the citizens of Neomuna. While he was able to cause some damage, including a murder within the city, he was thwarted and defeated by Guardians approximately two weeks after The Witness attacked the city.
