Nezumi is a minor antagonist of the live-action series One Piece, based on the anime/manga series of the same name, serving as the secondary antagonist of the Arlong Park Arc. He is a corrupt, shrewd and morally bankrupt individual, who turned a blind eye to the atrocities committed by Arlong and his crew in exchange for money. He is responsible for making Luffy a wanted criminal.
He is portrayed by Rory Acton Burnell.
Biography[]
Although Arlong has been tyrannizing the Conomi Islands for eight years, he never had to fear the Marines. This was because the Marine captain in charge of this area was the corrupt Captain Nezumi. He allowed himself to be bribed by the fishman and tolerated his dark machinations in exchange for regular payments. But he not only tolerated them, he also actively covered up Arlong's tracks.
When the Straw Hats were on the Conomi Islands looking for Nami and answers as to why she betrayed her friends when Arlong arrived on the Baratie, Nezumi paid the fishmen a visit and told Arlong that it was becoming increasingly difficult to cover up his actions and demanded double the agreed amount. Arlong then retreated to his tower to renegotiate with him. Differences arose and Arlong intimidated Nezumi, so he accepted the previous agreement again and was satisfied with the amount given. After Nezumi left the room, Arlong learned that Nami had the 100,000,000 Belly with which she could have bought back her village according to an agreement with Arlong from eight years ago. But Arlong did not want to let Nami go and informed Captain Nezumi about Nami's savings and where he could find them. When Nami dug up the money she had collected in a chest in Belle-mère's tomb at night and informed her sister, Captain Nezumi appeared and confiscated the money because it was stolen. Nami realized that he had been informed about the money by Arlong.
Vice Admiral Garp's unit was hot on the Straw Hats' heels, which is why they soon reached the waters off the Conomi Islands. They contacted Nezumi, the captain in charge of the area, and consulted him. Garp said that he had been informed of a pirate attack on Cocoyasi Village, to which Nezumi replied that he would take care of it and that it was not Arlong, but Straw Hat Luffy and his crew who were responsible. Koby contradicted the captain, who did not want to take it lying down, but Garp interrupted the talk and wondered where Luffy could be. After the Straw Hats had defeated Arlong and his fishmen and were celebrating with the villagers, Garp's unit with Captain Nezumi appeared in the evening and interrupted the celebrations. Garp wanted to have the Straw Hats arrested, but Koby and Helmeppo defied the order and a conversation ensued between the Vice Admiral and his grandson Luffy. After a brief exchange of blows, Garp let go of the Straw Hats and instead gave the order to capture the still fugitive Arlong Pirates, which all the other marines followed except for Captain Nezumi. Nezumi protested and wanted the Straw Hats, who he said were true criminals, to be arrested. Nami then hit him on the head from behind with her fighting staff, causing him to collapse unconscious. In revenge, Nezumi had an enormous bounty of 30,000,000 berries, the highest bounty in the entire East Blue, placed on Luffys head.
Personality[]
Nezumi has a very nasty character. He is corrupt and lets Arlong bribe him, even though this means tyrannizing the civilians he vowed to protect. This shows his greed for money. He is also full of himself and uses his rank to intimidate others, although Garp was able to quickly stop this from happening to Koby due to his higher rank. Despite his high rank, however, he is also easily intimidated himself, which was seen in the presence of Arlong when he withdrew his demands. He is also vengeful and wanted to take revenge on Luffy by putting a huge bounty on his head, even though he unknowingly gave him great pleasure in doing so.
Appearance[]
Nezumi is a middle-aged man of average height. He has a thin, black goatee. He wears a naval uniform with epaulettes, black trousers and black boots, in keeping with his officer rank. Underneath the uniform, he wears a dark hoodie that ends in a distinctive naval cap with fabric mouse ears. He also has whiskers.
Powers and Abilities[]
As a captain, Nezumi holds a high rank within the Marines, but he has not been seen in combat himself. Nami's punch was enough to knock him out, so he probably did not receive the rank based on his physical abilities.
