Nick Carr is the main antagonist of the 2005 comedy movie, Be Cool. He is a crooked music producer, music promoter, Raji Lowenthal's partner, Linda Moon's former manager, and the head of Carosell Entertainment.
He was portrayed by Harvey Keitel, who also portrayed The Lieutenant in Bad Lieutenant, Sport in Taxi Driver, Lawrence Dimmick in Reservoir Dogs, Victor the Cleaner in Point of No Return, Vince LaRocca in Sister Act, Ray Donlan in Cop Land, Frankie Zammeti in Crime Spree, and Winston Wolfe in Pulp Fiction, Angelo Bruno in The Irishman, and "Smiley" Harris in The Ridiculous 6.
Personality[]
Though he sometimes comes off as calm and charming, Nick Carr is shown to be cruel, mean, arrogant, selfish, abusive, careless, deceiving, greedy, stubborn, and opportunistic. He can only put up with Raji Lowenthal's stupidity for so long until he finally refers to him as a "stupid ass". He doesn't take kindly to Chili's jokes and attempts to get Linda off his contract.
Biography[]
At his company, Carosell Entertainment, Nick Carr is on the phone with some people in his office until his partner, Raji Lowenthal comes in and informs him about one of their Chicks singers, Linda Moon having quit on them last night at The Viper Room club and left with Chili Palmer, a former gangster whom Nick actually knows from the old days now working as Linda's new manager despite her 5-year contract. Although not surprised to hear that Chili knocked out Raji's gay Samoan bodyguard, Elliot Wilhelm down, Nick is rather concerned about Linda leaving them since she is still under contract. So, Nick decides it's time Raji found, hired, and paid his gluttonous hitman, Joseph Lupino a.k.a. Joe Loop $5,000 to have Chili killed despite the latter's reluctance.
The next day, Nick learns from the newspapers that Joe Loop hit the wrong guy: a Russian gangster who preceded him to Chili's house with the same intentions due to Chili being a witness to his friend, Tommy Athens's murder the other day at the hands of the Russian mob led by Roman Bulkin. Nick informs Raji and once again forces him to hire and pay Joe Loop another $5,000 for the correct hit this time.
Later, at night, Nick returns home to find Chili waiting for him there where they discuss Linda and her contract. A few nights later, Nick is at a bar with Raji wondering what happened to Joe Loop until Elliot arrives and reveals Chili's problem with the Russians, which inspires Nick to come up with an idea on how to get Chili whacked once and for all. The next day, Nick arrives with his bodyguard at Bulkin's pawnshop and makes a deal that might prove beneficial for both parties.
The following night, Nick and Raji (having promised to pay Linda the promised money from the Viper Room gigs earlier) force Linda to perform on stage at The Last Samurai Club until Chili comes to her rescue while revealing both Linda's upcoming performance with Aerosmith and Joe Loop's murder at the hands of none other than Raji himself, which greatly angers Nick who proceeds to insult Raji while knocking the latter's hat off for his stupidity and calling him a "stupid ass".
The next morning, Nick is confronted by hip-hop producer, Sin LaSalle and his men, rap group DubMD dragging Raji in as well whom they brutally beat up earlier and finds out that Raji tried to set him up by making Sin believe that he tricked Chili into giving him the $300,000 that Tommy Athens owed him to get Linda's contract, as suggested by Elliot earlier, as payback for Nick having insulted Raji last night. Sin orders his men to take Raji out to the balcony and threatens to drop him unless he gets paid. Then, Nick is confronted by Bulkin and his men for supposedly setting him up after the cops came in earlier in the day with a ticket to his pawnshop instead of Chili as originally planned until Sin kills him for insulting the latter with racist remarks; much to Nick's horror. When Nick explains the situation better to Sin, Raji's life is spared.
The next day, Nick is informed by Raji that Sin produced Linda's single as her new producer, but then, Nick tells Raji that Chili called him earlier to reveal that Linda played successfully with Aerosmith and tried to offer him a deal to promote her; much to his annoyance and anger. Realizing that Chili is going to make Linda a big star, Nick sends Raji and Elliot out to take care of Chili personally in return for forgetting about the setup the other day.
At night, during Linda's performance for a music video featuring her latest album produced by Sin and filmed by Shotgun, Nick arrives with his own bodyguard and Raji while Elliot holds Tommy Athens's widow, Edie hostage, forcing Chili to give him back Linda's contract, which Chili agrees to by handing Nick a pawn ticket revealing the contract's whereabouts. Then, Nick leaves Raji and Elliot to take care of both Chili and Edie personally until Chili manages to convince Elliot to turn on Raji for his deception involving erasing his messages on his answering machine about an audition next Tuesday at 3 pm for an upcoming movie with Nicole Kidman, which eventually leads to Raji's death in the end.
In the morning, Nick arrives with the ticket at the pawnshop to collect Linda's contract, but instead, ends up with the bat used to kill Joe Loop, which gets him arrested on murder charges, thus, finally realizing that Chili actually set him up. With Nick arrested, Raji dead, and Elliot redeemed, Linda wins the awards for best new artist and video of the year and makes an acceptance speech at the MTV Video Music Awards.
During the end credits, Nick Carr can be seen dancing with his bodyguard.
